Runs but only when applying pressure to the steering wheel

So just bought a 1990 f150 xlt lariat 302 efi. Was running fine besides having to push up on the steering wheel to start it wel figured out that was due to a fuse not properly installed. I replace it then it started fine with no pressure need be applied. Wel it just died and will not stay running unless I keep pressure on the steering wheel. Please help don't know what it is

Sound like loose wires to the ignition switch in the steering column. just remove steering column shroud and lower the steering column check the ignition switch wires.first disconnect negative battery cable before working on ignition switch. either switch wires loosen or switch could be bad.

sounds like a problem with the auto matic idel speed motor. They get carbon in them and they get stuck. If your handy with tools and can carefully remove and replace parts on cars and have some basic hand tools you may be able to fix it yourself.

Hi, I'm not sure you need to remove the tilt mechanism to replace the actuating rod. Do you have the lock out of the column? With the lock out and the switch removed from the rod, the rod should slip up and out of the column. See diagram below.
