Question about 1995 Toyota Tercel
Here is my dilemma. I'm trying to figure out an issues with a '95 Tercel. The car, besides being old, runs fine. Just recent after a 150Km trip, the car won't start. The fuses and relays look good and click over when the ignition is put into the Start Position. There is even a click from the engine bay and a small low humm sound. I can only presume this would be the starter solenoid getting power but possibly a switch wire to the starter that may be faulty?? ... Anyone have any thoughts or hands on with this stuff?

SOURCE: 1995 camry has no ignition fire
I think for sure that the timing belt has jumped a tooth. This can happen if your water pump, or your idler pulley, which are driven by the timing belt, "locks up" for a second. Best advice: replace the timing belt (you should not "reuse" it, as once it slips a tooth, that tooth is now weakend. Also, check the feel of the water pump impeller-gear...if it feels gritty or does not spin freely, replace the water pump while you are in there. It's not much more work. Also check the IDLER pulley for the same feel. If it feels bad/does not spin free, replace it. One or the other caused your problem.
Let me know how it turen out.

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

I had a prolem like this one time a while back. what i did was got the wiring diagram and checked everything that was running through that 30 amp fuse. on the one i was working on it ended up being an injector wire pinched under the valve cover and it didnt short out till the car was driven til it warmed up and expanded after the valve cover gasket was changed. hope this helps!

If you can pull the key out of the ignition while it is running then the key is probably worn out. If you have a spare key use it or have a new key cut. As far as the fuse box not having any power look for a main fuse that comes off the battery to the fuse box. There has to be a main fuse blown, fusible link burned out, or a loose wire somewhere. You really should not try to "ghetto rig" starting the car or you can short out components all the vehicle.
