I have a 97 chevy 1500 with a 5.7 engine i notice that there was a tube hanging from the cap of my overflow coolent tank is that suposed to be connected to something or is it to release coolent

if the hose fitting has a tube under the cap to the bottom of the bottle then it has to be connected to the radiator under the radiator cap
otherwise it is just an overflow hose to the ground

What cause lower radiator hose to collapse after cool down

Hi Larry:
Good observation. Not too many people would spot that.
When the engine is hot, the coolant is hot and expands. At the filler cap for the radiator, there will be a hose that goes to the overflow tank. As the coolant fluid expands, it flows through thie tube into the overflow tank.
When the engine is turned off, as it cools, the volume of coolant in the engine and radiator contracts, and is supposed to suck fluid back from the overflow tank.
I'm suspicious that something is preventing this from happening so the vacuum in the engine coolant system is collapsing the hose.
- Check the radiator cap. Make sure it is functioning correctly. Make sure that it is correctly installed and screwed all the way on.
- Check the coolant overflow hose. Make sure it is not plugged.
Odds are that you will find the problem quite quickly.

Need to find out where overflow hose connects tried following it but it just ends underneath where i put antifreeze in 97 cadilac deville

There is an over-flow hose between the coolant recovery tank, and the top of the radiator just below the radiator cap, and there is also an over-flow hose from the top of the coolant recovery tank and it just hangs over the side of the recovery tank and runs the over-flow off out under the front of the passenger side fender well area.

Where do the two hoses from the water reserve tank run in Jeep Grand Cherokee? One is the radiator..... There is another that is hanging and appears to be leaking water. When I drive, stop, and turn off...

The coolant reservoir has a line from the radiator, that is connected near the radiator cap,the other one hangs down for overflow, the radiator cap might be weak,so replace it with the one the vehicle calls for,if this does not stop then there is a problem, have it checked out,if this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

Antifreeze overflow from tank

I would check for visible cracks and leaking at the overflow tank when the engine is cold, then when the engine is running and at operating temperature and not running and at operating temperature as well as during cool down. Also check the coolant overflow hose for leaks or obstructions inside the hose or if the hose is kinked. Check to make sure that the overflow tank cap is damage free and securely fastened.

Hey i have a 1990 geo storm thats alittle tore up their is a house haging down from from the radiator fan that has been severd could anyone tell me where this house is supposed to go its small not even 1/4...

Hmm if it is a mouse house you can just throw it in the garbage.
radiator fans are not supposed to have any hoses hanging from them. radiators sometimes have a overflow hose hanging from them and thats normal. Sometimes, most of the time, the over flow hose goes to an overflow container. some people throw those away and let the hose hang. Probably not a good idea.

My engine was running hot so I replaced the

Hello there
no this hose that hangs there is a overflow tube and it is meant to drain out any excessive fluid that the tank cannot hold that is why when you fill up the tank only fill it up to the full line on a cold engine or just a half inch below this line on a warm engine and let the car run untill the temoperature is up to operating levels and check the level in the tank again and add if needed ok?
Rermber that water will expand when it gets hot and if the tank is all ready past the full mark it will overflow into the tube that hangs down from the side.
Hope that this is very helpful for you
best regards michael

2000 am SE 2.4 L low coolant, cap is always under pressure, dirt like substance in tank, one hose is not connected to anything, what do i do?

Dirt like substance in ratiator ?
That could be oil or trani fluid..
Flush the sysyem.. if it happens again - you have a oil or trani leak..
Not sure what you mean by a hose not conected to anything..
There is a small ovrflow hose that comes off the cooling system and hust hangs.. To relieve overflow..
