Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have an issue with my 04. Chevy Cavalier ! We were driving and all of a sudden it pulled to the left! Took the car back home to check things out.... Looks as though the control arm is broke. It seems it rotted out of the bracket it was connected to. I should say the bracket rotted... I have called everywhere to order the part but no one seems to know what part I am talking about. Every place has told me the same thing. It connects to the sway bar. This is like a bracket not like any sway bar I have seen! Can someone PLEASE help me. Thanks

A sway bar issue wouldn't make it suddenly pull anyway.
It sounds like what you're seeing is a failed ball joint. THAT will cause the problem you're having, AND it fits the description of what you're looking at.
Thanks for using Fixya.

It's not the ballpoint you can actually see the broken control arm.. There seems to be a bracket that it sits in bolted to the car... That is the piece that rotted away causing the the lower control are to let go. I need the name of this part so I can fix it.

The control arm attaches by the BALL JOINT. See this page.

SOURCE: Front Left Sway Bar Link

The front stabilizer shaft (sometimes called a sway bar) is mounted to the top rear of the frame and to the lower control arm. The shaft is attached to the frame with clamps and rubber insulators and to the control arms with insulator links.

Get a second opinion. Do not tell them what the other guy found. If they find the same things than go back to your regular mechanic, have him make the repairs, and thank him for catching those problems before they failed and potentially caused serious injury to yourself!

or if they find something else have them make those repairs.

or have you regular mechanic show you why he thinks those parts need to be replaced. The should be sloppy enough to see with the naked eye and he should be more than happen to show you the movement or problem with all of those parts. If he doesn't than find somebody who will.

You obviously have an electrical short, Power seems to be pulling directly off engine to sound system somehow. Never heard this one before. First thing I'd do is check where wire is feeding to sound system and eliminate it.

04 cavalier makes grinding noise in front end turn the wheel to the right grinding gets worse turn the wheel to the left grinding stops. it sounds worse at 40mph and above. what would cause this?

3 things to check:
Worn disc brake pads, grinding against the rotor.
Wheel bearing
cv joint.
You posted grinding gets worse turning to the right, the problem is the driver side wheel, but it would be best to have both wheeles checked.
