The IAC is enclosed in the black plastic body which is attached on the side of throttle body, which cannot be opened. You can only clean the throttle body barrel from inside, and re-learn the idle speed control valve.

It is actually the stepper motor which is operated by the ECM after taking inputs from the various sensors that are installed on the engine

SOURCE: 2001 toyota echo engine light is on. Car idle is rough and sometimes stalls. Is there a way to clean the idle air control valve without removing it?

Yes, I just had the same problem and I cleaned it with STP throttle body and carb cleaner. Take off the air big air hose off of the throttle body. You will see a small hole on the lower right side. Put the spray nasal on your cleaner can. Stick the plastic nasal directly into the hold and spray it for about 7 seconds. Then take the nasal off of the can and stick it in the hole pushing it in and out for a few minutes. Then put nasal back on the can and spray for another 7 seconds. Now wait for 20 minutes. spray one last time for a few seconds and you are good to go. You will be shocked on how much better you echo will run. I almost spent 225.00 for a new idle control valve, man I sure am glad I did this. My car is running better now then when I first bought it. Good Luck !!

SOURCE: how can I to change or regulate the RPMs in my

Idle is controlled through the on board computer and is not adjustable, however after u cleaned the system you need to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and then let the system relearn the idle speed, this takes about 30 miles of driving a combination of city and highway.

There is no screw to adjust the idle , the PCM - engine computer controls the idle with the use of IAC valve , Idle air control valve ! The Base idle is set at the factory an you need not try to adjust it ! You will cause running problem an the check engine light to come on . Try cleaning the throttle plate and the idle air control passages .

Why does the engine check lite come on after replacing iac valve?

It comes on because you didn't resolve all your
OBD issues by what parts you installed

You check for codes after a repair & before you clear
    all data

Cleaning that part on a 25 year old car is not what I would do

Replace it-- only if it fails a test-- as with all parts

There is not one code that tells you what is wrong with
a vehicle or tells you there is a need to replace anything

If the MIL Lamp is on-- you have not found & resolved all the
    vehicles systems problems

I need to know where it's located and how to take off and put on idle control switch

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal...Locate the IAC valve on the side of the engine, near the intake...Remove the electric cable on the back of the IAC valve. Remove the screws that attach to the IAC valve and set them aside...
Pull the IAC out of the Cadillac DeVille and replace with new valve...Connect the IAC valve to the wire and reconnect the screws. Turn the screws so that they are completely tightened...Reconnect the negative cable to the battery and start engine to test valve.

Good luck, i hope this helps.

I have a 2002 ford taurus. check engine light is on. Auto Zone did a scan today and the error code was p1507 can you please tell me what i need to do to fix this problem.

    possible problems

    Vaccuum leak
    failed IAC valve
    open or short
    air inlet plugged

P1507 means "Idle Air Control Underspeed Error". It can be most commonly caused by a vacuum leak, a damaged Idle Air Control (IAC) assembly or a stuck IAC valve that needs cleaning. Essentially, your engine isn't idling at high enough according to your computer's programming parameters. Many times this shows up in colder weather as you try and start your vehicle. It will usually die unless you put your foot on the gas pedal and raise the RPM's. I have also read where a clogged air filter might be the problem. I would try cleaning your IAC valve first.

Where is idile valve air control sensor located on the 1998 beetle

    Hi there,

Well please follow the below link to check out the position of idle valve -

The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls the engine idle speed and dashpot functions. The valve is located on the side of the throttle body. This valve allows the necessary amount of air, as determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and controlled by a duty cycle signal, to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Disengage the wiring harness connector from the IAC valve .
Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals of the valve.

NOTE: Due to the diode in the solenoid, place the ohmmeter positive lead on the VPWR terminal and the negative lead on the ISC terminal.
If the resistance is not 7–13 ohms, replace the IAC valve.

The following symptoms can be caused by a faulty IAC due to loose connections, bad grounds, high resistance in the circuit, or opens in the circuit.
    Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Disengage the wiring harness connector from the IAC valve.
Remove the two retaining screws, then remove the IAC valve and discard the old gasket.

    To install:
Clean the IAC valve mounting surface on the throttle body of old gasket material.
Using a new gasket, position the IAC valve on the throttle body. Install and tighten the retaining screws to 71–106 inch lbs. (8–12 Nm).
Attach the wiring harness connector to the IAC valve.
    Connect the negative battery cable.

    Good Luck!!

How do i remove and clean the IAC

The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve adjusts the engine idle speed. The valve is located on the side of the throttle body. The valve is controlled by a duty cycle signal from the PCM and allows air to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed. Do NOT attempt to clean the IAC valve. Carburetor tune-up cleaners or any type of solvent cleaners will damage the internal components of the valve.
The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve adjusts the engine idle speed. The valve is located on the throttle body. The valve is controlled by a duty cycle signal from the PCM and allows air to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed.
    Removal & Installation

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. Detach the IAC solenoid connector.
    3. Remove the two retaining bolts and remove the IAC solenoid and gasket from the throttle body.
    4. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Use a new gasket and tighten the retaining bolts to 71-97 inch lbs. (8-11 Nm).

Car stalls when you let off the gas when warm or idling

sounds like your IAC (idle air control valve) located on the throttle body towards the front of the engine held in by 2 torx screws. the iac controls the idle if the car when your not on the gas. i will post the steps to clean the iac and the passages that the iac goes into.

    1. disconnect the iac connector
    2. remove the iac
3 clean the iac pintle valve and check for wear
    4. clean the passages that the pintle valve sits in (usually carbon build-up in there, you may need to remove the air intake tube and air filter box to get to the passages in the throttlebody)
    5. if the iac looks ok and the passages are cleaned re-install and put everything back
    6. start car and see if it idles like normal when warmed up. you may need to give it a few tries for the iac to re-learn its proper position so give it a few warmup cycles
    7. if it still stalls check for proper operation of the iac via ohming out the connectors (if you look it up on google you will find the specs at which the iac is supposed to operate)
    8. if the iac is working properly, check for vacuum leaks on the intake manifold and vacuum lines.
    9. if no vacuum leaks are present and the iac id working properly after cleaning have a shop check the ecm (engine control module) for a bad circuit board, i've seen that haoppen as well

    hope this helps!

    Car running problem

Ok Slow deceleration rev responce was part of the ECU software to keep the emissions down ,however if this has only just started you can try to reset the IAC valve ,the procedure is as follows.

Turn ignition key on ,unplug the IAC valve ,turn the key off ,replug the IAC valve. do this 3-4 times .Then start the engine while holding the gas pedal to 2000 rpm ,then slowley let the go of the gas pedal till the engine idles .

The IAC valve is located on the throtle body and has 4 wires to it.

Sometimes the throtle body needs to be cleaned and then reset.
