04 Kia optima... I replaced broken timing belt and the engine turns over but doesn't start

Did you make sure the belt was installed with the timing marks lined up properly? If you forgot to look at the timing marks it will not start and you may damage the engine trying to start it.

I need torque settings for 2006 kia cerato 2.l crdi ex cylinder head please

cannot help with the timing marks or the head torques iam afraid as my aldata book doesnt show timing marks ,now for the head torque it shows 35nm and turn 90? and all that, now pull the head down to around 90lbs in three stages ,look at the thickness of the head bolts as well as the thicker they are the more torque they have and how many ,as some engines have 8 but some engines have a 12 .Now as for timing my back street mechanic way is mark bottom pulley with the head off at TDC no1 ,but i think their is a mark on the earlier models but not the later ones as their is no woodruff key so if you cannot get the pulley off to chenge the timing belt you will have to drill into the bell housing and tap the 10mm hole in line with the ring gear to lock the engine to undo the front pulley bolt and tighten it up again ,do not use the starter motor with a big bar on the front pulley bolt jammed in the chassis bodge on newer motors.Right with TDC found you lower the pistons till they are all level so when you put the head on you cannot hit the valves even a thicko like myself cannot go wrong with this ,then fit the head and the camshafts now look on the back of the camshaft and if iam correct and my memory is still working at my advanced years their should be a slot in the back of the cam that has to be level with the head make a bar to hold them in place ,now as for the pump well its a common rail engine so it can in any position it doesnt matter as this engine has a cam sensor ir again my memory serves me rightly ,Look i work on many cars iam not a dealer fitter on one make only all day long ,yesterday i worked on a ford focus ,a jaguar ,then a opel zafiro so by the time i finished i was cream crackered so iam answering only one question this morning as i have to get ready for work as this is spain and today iam a paper walla ,yes paperwork in the traffic office in alicante and dont go their on their ridiculous rules ,here in spain anything you want to do their is 50 or more paper wallas in a line with a rubber stamp in right hand and you dont get that stamp without paying through the nose .Anything else you need to know reply to this post

Timing marks

Look at the front of the engine, there is a major pulley looking thing at the bottom, that is the vibration damper. When you look off to the side you will see a template that has marks on it. Also on the damper you will find a line. You might need to clean the line and use a hilighter on it.

How to fix Toyota Landcruiser "Malfunction Indicator Lamp Light"

Common problems that can cause the Check Engine light to come on In older cars, it was typically something like a bad oxygen sensor, faulty mass airflow sensor, failed catalytic converter, worn-out spark plugs, ignition wires, a loose gas cap or a clogged-up EGR system. Newer cars have a lot more electronics, which means, many other things could go wrong too. It's practically impossible to find the problem without at least scanning the vehicle and retrieving the stored code(s). On the other hand, once you know the code that caused your Check Engine light, it's not that difficult to do some research and find out common problems for your car's make and model that can cause the particular code.
Why Check Engine light comes on

Can't align the timing marks on the camshaft gears on a KIA Optima 2004 2.4 litre engine, they are 1 tooth off but will not stay when moved

you need a special tool that holds them in place its a weird looking thing made out of plastic but it works ,try your local auto factor or snap on man, some vehicles i use a pari of molegrips on teh camshaft ,take the rocker cover off and you will see what i mean ,clamp the cam and then wedge the moles with something to hold it in place ,what a cowboy iam but it works

Timing chain

remove the rocker cover and look at the back of the cams first ,also turn over with a socket and rachet before you try to start engine.-not sure as never seen this model engine here in spain but iam sure timing marks are a slot on each cam that has to be level with the head or their is a grove in the front or end bearing cap with a notch on the cam.If you cant find anything then set up to basics ,like my motor mechanics exam ,An engine with a box of bits and refit the lot with no timing marks .,easy
