I have a 2000 dodge cummins with a 5 speed manual tranny and when i push in the clutch and hold it for a couple seconds it starts moving like i let off the clutch and ao wont let me shift even if i push the clutch. Any ideas on what it could be

You have a failed clutch master cylinder piston rubber that is leaking back into the reservoir. Pumping the pedal will not help as the rubber is not holding the pressure for a second pump.. Bleeding out any air may help in the short term but I would advise a new clutch master cylinder.

Here is some possible reasons why your transmission is having those problems .

* The gear shift linkage is binding
* There is an internal problem in the transmission
* The throttle cable is broken or disconnected
* The vacuum modulator on the transmission is faulty or the vacuum line is damaged
* The electronic transmission control circuit may be faulty

With ALL due respect, I speak from a 30 year Career of AUTO & Heavy Truck Experence of Fleet Management and Personal Customer Auto Care, and by NO means do I mean any Disrespect to you here.
As Long as is Does Not grind while UP SHIFTING you R fine , DOWNSHIFTING into 1st Gear BEFORE 20 mph is a Disaster Waiting to Happen EXAMPLE> Just BECAUSE a car CAN run at 120mph does not Mean One SHOULD do it. If it downshifted to 1st gear before 20 mph with OTHER Clutch that was due to WEAR, there MAY be a bit of AIR in the Release bearing or Slave cylinder, That needs to be BLED OUT, DOWNSHIFTING IS NOT A recommended Practice Unless its an EMERGENCY STOP condition, as It Causes Premature Wear on Clutch Disc. I Know this MAY seem UNTRUE as you may have done it for years But IN FACT A Clutch is MADE to Simply Get From LOWER GEAR TO HIGHER GEAR, but if you Downshift ALL of the time you WILL Subject the Clutch to TWICE the WEAR you Should THUS WEARING it OUT TWICE AS FAST $ thats $$$$. A good number of shops wont Advise you this Far as it Would REDUCE THERE Profit. I Hope I Have shed some Light on this delima, And Think of the MONEY you Can SAVE on TWICE the Longevity with 1 Clutch Job. You said you have fuel flowing from the inlet line of the injection pump? But not at the injector lines?

This mainly is caused by transmission fluid level changes. Measure it when its at running temperature and in park. Add if necessary (most likely the cause)

bad injector?
easy to test with vom, just check from terminal on injector to ground if one reads different thats the problem, you do need to disconnect wire to check, my help is free and will be glad to help further just vote fixa..LOL my rating is all I care about. Hope yu can help me too.

hello dodge cummins owner i myself have a 98 dodge ram 1500 5.9L truck and i just recently had to rebuild my transmission. my truck would go fine in reverse but would not move in forward. when i took the trany apart i found out that the clutchs were completely gone. but in order to rebuild your trany i would sugest in getting a shop repair manual. i had purchased a shift kit for 400 dollars and it came with all the clutchs that i needed and that is much cheaper than buying a tranny or even haveing a shop work on it. the shop wanted 1500 dollars to rebuild it and to buy a new tranny it was over 2000 dollars.
