SOURCE: nissan sunny mod 96 dtc codes

There is a connector under the steering column, you need to buy an OBD 2 system scanner to plug into that connector and access the codes. The system is always in diagnostic mode, OBD 2 stands for On Board Diagnostics second generation.

SOURCE: obd diagnostic

Look under the hood in the engine compartment. The emissions sticker will tell you if it is obd compliant...If it is manufactured in the u.s. since 1996 , federal laws require it to be obd compliant..I would give the manufacturer of the scanner a call to check compatability...Good Luck!!!

SOURCE: my nissan sunny GA15DE was overhauled but started

Gerald:Was the engine overhauled because of the smoking problem? If so, the auto trans solution is more likely your problem. Good Luck

  • Automatic transmission? - Check vacuum line to transmission . The only line of rubber going to trans. Located where it attaches ro trans and rwmove it watching to see if it contains any trans fluid. If hose has oil in itm Then replace the valve it was attached to. The valve is called a transmission modulator. The diaphragm is rupture and aloowing engine vacuum to **** and burn the fluid. your trans should be needing fluid too often. Modulator around 12.00 last known.
  • Manual transmission ? - PCVvalve not bafflrd against drawing oil from its location in valve cover.and or Pcv valve is defective. Cheap fix-replace

Testimonial: "that was very helpful. it was the pcv valve that was letting oil into the intake manifold hence the smoking. thanks. Gerald."

I have problem with my ECU.. a transistor inside was burnt up..What could have caused it..

Several things can cause a transistor to burn out. Water or moisture contamination is the most common. Also, voltage spikes in the charging system, low voltage due to poor or corroded grounds or loose connections, bad solder points due to age and vibration that creates excessive resistance on the circuit board.

How do I check engine codes on a '93 Nissan Quest?

Here is a general description on retrieving codes.
You will need to check online for the actual codes and their meanings. Systems built before 1996 will not show much compared to OBD2 systems built after 1996.

Turn ignition key on.
On Pathfinder, Pickup and Van models, proceed as follows:
    1. Turn diagnostic mode selector on ECU to ON position and wait until inspection lamps flash.
    2. Note number of flashes, then immediately turn diagnostic mode selector to Off position.

OBD2

OBD is on board diagnostic 2, This is the ability to plug a diagnostic scanner/computer into the vehicles ECU to identify electrical component faults with the vehicle. Some readers need details of the vehicle inputted, other devises gain information direct from the ECU Hope this helps

My Nissan Engine type GA15DE1497 Manufactured 1997. Has stalled. Diagnostic kit says the Camshaft positioning censor has failled. The mechanic working on the car can not locate that censor. Kindly let me...

Hi there,

Firstly, if your mechanic cannot locate the camshaft sensor on your GA15DE, then he should NOT be working on your vehicle - chances are, you are payiing extra labour time due to his lack of skill !

Camshaft sensors are generally located 'inside' the distributor cap, or just outside it. Some Nissan engines had the location moved from the side of the engine, to the top.

I strongly recommend you choose a mechanic who understands your engine (i.e. authorised Nissan mechanic) who will get the job done quicker.

Cheers,

Scot

96 nissan 200sx is it obd2 ready

yes it has an obd2 diagnostic plug The trouble codes that are required by law on all OBD II systems are "generic" in the sense that all vehicle manufacturers use the same common code list and the same 16-pin diagnostic connector. Thus, a P0302 misfire code on a Nissan means the same thing on a Honda Toyota or Mercedes-Benz. But each vehicle manufacturer also has the freedom to add their own "enhanced" codes to provide even more detailed information about various faults
