Have you checked the wiring on the truck ? Depending on the year and model, there should be a circuit coming from the gauges that turns the alternator on once the engine starts. Or there could be a break in the main circuit between the alternator and battery.

Did you have the old alternator tested to be sure that it was faulty? You can usually take them to your local parts store and they will test them for free. Also, it is usually a good idea to test the alternator and battery at the same time to be sure that one or the other is faulty. Alternators are most generally refurbished, and sometimes you can get a bad one, have it tested to make sure that it is working properly

Battery doesn't charge

It doesn't affect the charging. Have your alternator tested. If it is good, check connections between alternator and battery, and check all fuses.

I have a 97 Ford Expedition. Every time I go to crank up it won't crank I would have to get a jump. And I'd just bought that battery a couple of months ago. Then when I took it to be checked out I...

ok, first, once the vehicle is started, the alternator should take over the functions of the car,, not the battery , the battery should charge during this time, ( car running) if the alternator is having to supply to much juice to the battery the whole car suffers, and the battery never fully charges . Just because the battery says 12 volts, doesn't mean the amps are there, which you need to start the vehicle,, take the battery and get it LOAD tested, this will let you know if one or more cells in the battery aren't up to par, if it doesn't measure up,, get it replaced, you sate that its only 4 months old, so take it to someone other than who you bought the battery from, and have it load tested there, once you have a known GOOD battery ,, start the vehicle,, then with a meter check the battery posts,, you should get a reading of between 13.5-14.5 volts, if you don't,, your alternator isn't doing its job and will need replacing

if your seeing 12 volts after the charge, it doesn't mean the battery is good,, a single cell thats bad in a battery will give you fits and produce the problems you listed,, remove the battery , and have it LOAD tested, that way you will get a true correct reading, a battery can show `12 volts, but a bad cell will not let it charge to the correct amps it needs to start the vehicle. once you've done that , and your sure you have a good battery ,, start the vehicle,, ( make sure that when you replaced the battery , that all the connections are clean and tight) with a meter, place one lead on each battery terminal, you should get a reading between 13.5 and 14.5 volts, if you do , then your alternator is doing its job, if not,, replace the alternator, ( your vehicle doesn't have a generator)

Saturn 98 wont hold charge, batterie light turn on and than car stop running... is it the alternator or the wireing

Alternator is your likely problem. The wiring isn't bad in saturns, just need to replace the belts when needed. Your problem though is definitely that it just doesn't keep a charge, so your alternator is responsible for your dilemma.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus. One week ago the battery light came on and stayed on for two days when the voltage drained and left me stranded on the side of the road. I took the alternator to a rebuild shop...

Sounds like the alternator is still not making the correct voltage to charge the fully. The battery light comes on when the alternator doesn't make enough voltage to charge it. Your alternator might still be charging, but not putting out required voltage. I would have your alternator & battery tested. Hope this helps you.

My car has been sitting for about 3 months.. It will start after being jumped but will not stay started if i remove my foot from the gas

Charge the battery for a few hours.(3-7) Then re-try. If car doesn`t stay running your alternator will have to be replaced, but i would have charging system checked.

Ive got a 1991 Eagle talon turbo with 5 speed trans, ive replaced the battery and alternator and still wont charge?

If you know for sure that the alternator is good then use an Ohm meter to check set to DC 20 when the car is in the ON position but not running. Unplug the alternator and put the red end on the positive side of the alternator plug and touch the negative to any other metal surface. Should be the same reading as your battery is when you do the same test on the battery. If not, then the wiring is bad and needs to be replaced.

Just because something is new doesn't mean it works so if this test doesn't work, take out the alternator and have it tested.

Also check fuses!!!

Charging Light On After Replacing Alternator/Battery1999Windstar

Hi, I can't tell you exactly what is wrong because there is too much involved at this point, what with 2 shops working with it, but I can give you some advise on what else to check. On the alternators and the wiring that supports them a small volt charge is taken off one of the slip rings, where the brushes ride, for the purpose of turning out the light. As I remember, this is a yellow wire that runs back to the dash.

To the alternator, it would be one of the wires that plug into the side of the alternator case.
