Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I just bought a 450 a few weeks ago and it ran fine for a while then one day on the way home it seemed like it was running out of gas. Being only a few blocks away from the house I went directly home. When I shut down I shook the bike, no gas gauge, and there was about a quarter of a tank left. Now the bike will start but as soon as any throttle is added it shuts off. Any possibilities??? Here is a quick video of it before the problem.

Fuel petcock screen may b clogged or u may have a soft fuel line n it's collapsing. drain tank n remove petcock n replace fuel lines it's a good idea to do every year with this crappy gas these days it eats everything.

I'm going to take it to the nearest dealer this week and I'm trying to avoid too many costly repairs but William that's about the same solution that I've been hearing across the board so I'll go that route first. Thanks

had a problem with a grand prix like that once, was the fuel filter, and injectors, all needed replaced, and it only had 89,000 miles.
Would check fuel filter first. Is it possible you got some bad gas??

SOURCE: ran it out of gas,now wont start

Turn the key without starting the engine, you should hear the fuel pump engage. Do this a few times to prime the engine. If it still doesn't start, spray "starting fluid", available at parts store, into your throttle body. It should start now.

Hey Mudkicker,

Who ever thought of putting an electric fuel pump inside a tank of gas........

Check your other gauges for accuracy. They do that when a ground is loose.

Check the wiring from the fuel tank along the longitudinal frame for frays and shorts. Plugs are secured.

Under the hood, passenger side, check the fuel pump relay. Switch it with one of the others to test it.

Bring the vehicle to an auto parts store. Ask them to break out he code reader. Check for diag codes

Someone pour sugar in gas tank

did your engine get hot the second time. if it was me i would have an estimate for everything to be perfect and take the person who did it and take them to court. sugar could ruin your engine, and you could do the same if u run it too lean, cause your cyl head temp could get really hot.

Just turns off on it's own, Wait 60 sec. restart press pedel it dies.

This engine is electronically controlled so the first thing that must be done here is to have the systems control computer tested for fault codes and then do the proper diagnostics based on those codes.

Ford 460 loses power then dies. Starts back up. Idles fine.

It sounds like you might have a clogged catalatic converter on the exhaust system.
