Auto Repair Prices are not something
you ever know or can ask about
You have to find the problems & in most
cases take the vehicle apart
Only then can a shop tell you what they would
charge for the solution
No two places would be the same.

SOURCE: 1990 bronco trans problem

Hello WBW,

My name is Mike. I've been an Expert here at Fixya for over eight months and have never had a problem.

On behalf of the True Experts here at FixYa, I would like to apologize for the post submitted previously.

This person has been previously banned from the site for posting inappropriate content. He chose the weekend for his 'tirade' because he knew there would be minimal staff available to shut him down.

In addition to the account he posted your message with, since Saturday he has created three other accounts that we know of and has used them to post over 100 messages exactly the same as the one you received.

The process of banning him at the IP address level has been initiated. But the process of removing the individual posts will take a while as they must be taken out one by one to maintain the referential integrity of our database.

In the meantime, we have called attention to this persons activities to our colleagues so that those with expertise in the area your problem resides can easily find and address it.

As I said, there are quite a few of these posts and it will take some time to address them all. So please be patient.

Once again, please accept the apologies of FixYa and the True Experts dedicated to making this site possible.

Best Regards,
Mike258

There is a trans. vacuum shift modulator on the side of the trany.. Look for a vacuum line going to it.. 90% of the time your problem is caused by it going out. Unscrew it and replace after you have checked for vac leaks in line and at connector. Car would run rough if you had a simple vac leak. Hope this helps mike.

check for vacuum leaks and possibly a bad vacuum modulator on the transmission. For the vacuum lines use an unlit propane torch. Engine running, pass the open torch along the lines. If you hear it rev, you just found the leak. no leak? have the modulator checked.

My '94 Escort lx keeps burning up the ATF. What's the cause likely to be?

Your transmission is failing. Your clutches are burnt. Your check engine light should be on by now. By now you should be experiencing rough gear shifts amongst other things.

Hi I have a vw Jetta 3 1994 clx carb model coil pack keep packing up now have conversion of Jetta 2 Modulator but Rev counter is playing up oil buzzer keep sounding. Can all this be caused by the...

Your Jetta 2 modulator is not compatible with the Jetta 3 electronics, especially when it comes to the coil as they give different stokes of spark to the distributor. Oil switch must have a pressure leak. Replace the switch as a small leak of pressure can cause the sensor buzzer to sound. The modulator have no influence on the oil pressure switch.

I have a 1987 crown vic that I purchased, the prev. owner said that they had the O/drive disconnected as they only drove it in town, all the mech. linkage is connected, it only drives in first, so what do...

Just perhaps they didn't know the vacuum modulator either is shot, disconnected or suffering from a broken vacuum hose.Jack up the car and look for the modulator,it's a round cylinder that sticks out of the transmission housing. It has a vacuum hose attached to it.The amount of vacuum your engine creates causes the trans to shift to the next gear.Pull of the vacuum line, take a clean WHITE rag or napkin.Wipe the modulator where the hose was connected and check it for transmission fluid.A white rag will show the red fluid as being red,any other color rag and you won't be able to tell it from motor oil which is light brown in color.Red oil, change the modulator because it's leaking. You can verify it by creating a vacuum at the modulator port.Don't create a vacuum by sucking on the end of a hose, unless you crave the taste of trans oil.Use a vacuum pump.It will hold the vacuum pressure 15 to 20 lbs., no more than that or you can ruin the modulator your self! Now if there's no oil and it holds a vacuum trace the vacuum line and look for leaks.Connect your pump to the line and create a vacuum, you'll find that leak in a heartbeat!Good luck!

How much does it cost to have seals replaced on a 2000 pontiac firebird v6 transmission? I keep finding a red fluid under it and I have had to fill the trans fluid up twice now.

it all depends on what seals, rear output seal is about $120.00, if it the front seal then trany has to be removed then an est, is about $500.00. i would wash it all down then let it run and try to pinpoint the leak could just be a line leaking or modulator valve going bad leting engine burn the fluid , good luck hope this helps.

Engine smokes and burns of oil or something else burning.

if it is the camaro in the pick , they usually leak by the valve cover gaskets, right to the manifolds , that way the smoke and you don;t find the leak because it burns the oil

replaced faulty trans modulator, which allowed trans fluid to enter manifold, connecting tube, saturate air filter, and seep into oil pan thru engine via vacuum line from the modulator
