SOURCE: 1995 ford mustang break lights do not work.

get a manuel from an auto parts store. in this manuel it will have etm(electrical troubleshooting manuel) it shows the brake lights and wires colors of wires. trace the wire color from the fuse using the diagram. purchase a test light from wal mart to see if your wire has power. if it does there may be a bad connection or component but hte etm shoud show you what components are on the circuit.any questions email me at jacobtaylor3@yahoo.com

SOURCE: I have a 98 ford

Accoding to my schematic you should be seeing an orange/yellow wire going to the third brake light, and a branched off orange/yellow wire going to the turn signal switches which in turn goes to the BLU/WHT and BLU/BLK wires which control the rear stop lamps.

Then, there is a shorting bar connector that grounds out both rear tail lamps (not including the third brake lamp).

If the bulbs are good, then I'll bet the bar that grounds out both tail lamps has a bad ground, maybe.

Try to look for the common ground wire and trace it to the body, and see if there is a loose screw or nut that holds it to the negative body part.

Good luck on this repair.

Location third brake light wires

you can use one of the wires from either brake light and make yourself a good ground in trunk and running the two wires to you light switch. be careful where and how you run wires around the trunk hindges as you do not want them to become pinched and short out as that is a safety issue and get you pulled over. always solder and heat shrink all splices and wire to wire connections, if you dont you will hate your self later as wire from front of car to back of car could then need to be replaced.

How do I replace Brake light switch?

Make sure the switch is the culprit. Do the other taillights work when braking? if so, look for a problem elsewhere, such as wiring to the 3rd light. Give special attention where the cable is routed through the trunk lid.

2005 Lincoln Ls 3rd Brake Light Wiring

The best way to wire a third brake light is to run the wire directly from the brake light switch on the side of the steering colum to the light. You will need a test light to find out what wire lights up when you push the brake pedal. Then you can splice into it when you run your wire to the rear light.
