Question about Cars & Trucks

Shifter linkage sounds like its being knocked. The u joint is fine and it doesn't happen at higher rpms. Any ideas on what this could be? Can post video of sound if that will help. Thank you

I'm unsure I understand what your issue is however. Shifter linkage is being knocked?

I'm wondering if your linkage is making pop or a knock sound when you shift from park. Is this an automatic? You may just need some old u-joints replaced.

What do you mean by loud... Loud where??? If noise is from engine, make sure that the mechanical fan clutch is not "locked" (it's supposed to freewheel when cold... if it does not, it will "roar" when driving.

SOURCE: oil pressure drops once it gets warm

Sorry to say it sounds like the motor is gone. Higher oil pressure when the oil is cold is normal. But, when the engine gets to operating temp and the pressure bottoms out and the engine knocks you have big problems. If the mileage is very high (150,000) or more your bearings are so worn that the oil can't fill the void between the surfaces and thus the low oil pressure.

Move it to 3rd instead of drive and see if you still have the noise. May be transmission related since you have replaced everything else.

You need to get under the vehicle and check the linkages where the lever attaches, you will find loose or broken linkages under there.

Probably a sticking valve lifter. Try putting a cup of transmission oil in the engine crank case, or any off the shelf product that is made for said problem. If it doesn't stop, you will have to get it looked at and repaired. It will eventually cause engine failure.
No, it isn't the knock sensor. The knock sensor causes the engine light to come on when there is a problem. It doesn't knock.

I have a 79 chevy bonanza c 10. The truck will not engage in any gears. The shifter will be in the position but nothing happens when i hit hte gas. Its an automatic transmission. What could the problem be?

The first thing to do is check the trans fluid level and make sure it's full, engine running and truck in park. If it's low top it up and manually shift it slowly through the all the gears. Check the fluid again and top up if necessary. If this cures it you need to be checking for leaks.
If it's full, crawl under the truck and check to make sure the linkage is still hooked together. The shifter linkage could get knocked out of the transmission, it's just a spring loaded fit. With the truck turned off and the wheels blocked so it won't roll, have someone move the shifter through the gears. Watch to see if the shift mechanism on the side of the tranny moves with the shifter. If it doesn't you will have to find where it came apart and fix that.
If this all checks out then it's probable that the trans in going to have to come out and be repaired or replaced because the problem is internal. If it has been slowly getting worse, more gas pedal to keep the same speed or to get it moving, the clutchs are likely worn out. If it happened all of a sudden, it's likely that the pump has gone bad. Either means tearing it apart. You could try taking the pan off of it and checking to see if the filter is plugged. Changing it and the fluid may fix it if the filter is plugged. If you do this, add a bottle of Lucas transmission additive and you may buy yourself some time but a plugged filter and no go means you should start shopping for another transmission. It's just a matter of time before it goes for good. Hope this helps.

It could be spark knock. You should have a sensor to keep that from happening. So will a tank of Premium gas.

Another possibility is a loose heat shield on the exhaust system. Lincolns usually have longer warranties, call a dealer and see if it is covered. If it is part of the emissions system, the warranty is even longer.

Truck dont mouve

Ok lets start with is your truck a 4x4 or 2wheel drive? if a 4x4 check to see if your 4wd shifter didn't get knocked into neutral and that it is engaged properly in 2wd mode... if it is a pushbutton check that as well..

Does the Shifter Feel normal you feel it engage? if yes then you know shifter linkage is fine problem lies somewhere else..
Next when did this happen while driving did you hear a bang and then nothing?? maybe you Blew out the rear or boke a driveshaft. or Universal joint? this all will be noisy

or maybe you burned the clutch to the point it melted? it will stink badly and seem to linger forever in the air

has it sounded lateley noisier and noisier if so mabe throwout bearing burned up and broke something under the truck

please respond back with more detail and your findings

good luck

No 5th gear

Do you mean that the shifter moves normally, and no gear engages, or the shifter won't go into the 5th gear position?
If the shifter won't go there, its probably a mis-adjusted linkage.
If it will go there, but you don't "feel" it go into gear, it could be that the ball and socket linkage rod for 5th gear has popped loose(this is common on higher mileage VWs with worn shifter parts) I recommend an entire shift bushing set be installed and then the proper adjustments can be made... Hope this helps...;-)

Starting and rpms

it is possible they knocked a line or the linkage when replacing your brake line, alot of mechanics are careless with other parts of the car in hopes you will come back to them. take it to a different shop and have them check the linkage and lines to the trans.
