You replaced the thermostat? the water pump is actually less of a pump and more like a windmill so it usually doesn't break

My 1993 lexus es300 is overheating. one mechanic said that it was the water pump. another said the power steering pump, who is correct?

the power steering pump would have nothing to do with the engine overheating but the water pump certainly would, but before you go to the trouble of replacing the water pump you need to be certain that is the problem as there are other issues that can cause overheating, like the thermostat or a blocked radiator, the mechanic who said it was the power steering pump quiet obviously don't know too much about engines............hope this helps......cheers.

New water pump' thermostat, purge line. not heads or gaskets and still running hot

You say "Water pump thermostat" do you mean Thermostat or water pump? If you replaced the thermostat and still have an overheating problem then look at the water pump itself as the problem if that is replaced and you still have the problem then you have another problem in the engine or a clogged radiator core. You may have a lubrication problem in the motor, if the oil pump went out or your low on oil then the engine may be overheating from lack of lubrication. Another thing that will cause overheating is if the Fan is Electric and not activating or if the radiator fan is mechanical the clutch is not allowing the fan to rotate free when you are driving.

Car is overheating. Not sure if I should replace

If your car is leaking coolant from the water pump. Replace the water pump. If not replace thermostat first. It is the cheapest out of the 2.

Car overheated one day the fine the next but no

your heat is not working becuase the coolant level is too low meaning your heater core is full of air. the reason your car overheated is because the water pump impeller splines are gone and you need to replace the water pump. it is driven by the timing belt so replace that too. and the tensioner. this is the number one cause of vw overheating, especially on a diesel. i have replaced about 50 water pumps on this engine because of this.

I recently replaced my water pump. this afternoon my car overheated and radiator fluid was leaking above the water pump

Check your thermostat. It may be sticking and keeping the coolant from flowing, hence the overheating. Where above the water pump is it leaking? Hopefully you didn't blow a head gasket.

1991 Lincoln Town car overheating

The year of the vehicle, rusty liquid, and overheating, says your radiator could use a replacement. If it was your water pump, you would have liquid coming out of the water pump itself.
