Are the plugs getting fuel fouled or oil fouled? If it is oil getting into the combustion chamber then you are looking at either badly worn cylinders, bad oil rings on the pistons, or bad valve stem seals. If they are getting fuel fouled then your carburetor is dumping way too much fuel into the engine and I would suspect that maybe the float is stuck or not properly adjusted.
It sounds like maybe the float is sticking open on the carburetor. Check the bowl and needle for debris. The float may be worn out and needs replaced, or another part is bad. if nothing else, put a shut-off valve in the fuel line to stem the flow when the motor is not running.
cor thats a old one and iam trying to remember ,iam that old i can remember the opening of the M1 ,now if my memory serves me well then it should be about 120 lbs for a mini with a high compression engine ,use a lead additive as stelite coated valves were not introduced till quite late unlike a ford engine which had them from about 1970 .think these engine were about 8.5 or 9 to one compression ,four star petrol points gap 15th lucas plugs RN9Y 25th gap tappets 12 inlet 14 exhaust ,firing order 1342 and i never liked minis then and i still do not like them .Give me a humber hawk
