What is the normal range of oil pressure

I have a 2001 Buick Lesaber. It has the 3800 engine and is reading high oil pressure 150psi. Is this in normal range?

I have the same problem and think it's the oil sending unit which is located near the oil filter.

Have a 2003 BUICK LASABER - The oil pressure fluctuates extremely and the warning indicator repeatedly sounds. Oil level is in the normal range.

when driving gage jumps up to high psi and then will settle in normal psi range I change oil every 3k.

Need to know where the fuse is for oil sending unit on a 1998 Buick Park Avenue with a 3800 v6

There is no fuse for the oil sending unit ! Oil lite on , gauge not working ? Do you know what PCM five volt reference voltage is ? The PCM - engine computer supply's a stable 5 volt voltage to engine sensors . The oil pressure sensor is one of these sensors .
Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
The engine oil pressure sensor is a solid state transducer. The engine oil pressure sensor sends oil pressure information to the PCM. The PCM then transmits the oil pressure information to the IPC via serial data.
Engine oil pressure is displayed on the scan tool in volts. A low voltage reading indicates low oil pressure. As the oil pressure increases, the voltage level also increases. The normal range of the engine oil level sensor signal voltage is 0.5 volts at 0 kPa (0 psi) to 4.5 volts at 883 kPa (128 psi).

2001 Chevy Silverado c1500 pickup has very low oil pressure, what do I need to look at?

Do not drive the truck until the issue is resolved.

1. Make sure the oil is at the proper level in the engine with the correct spec oil for the pickup. Oh it is normal for the oil pressure to be a little low at idle and go up to the normal range as the engine rpm goes up to normal operating range.

2. It could be either a real problem or a problem with the oil pressure indicator. To verify which connect a mechanical test pressure gauge of the proper range say a 0-100 psig scale to the point where the oil pressure sensor is connected. After it is connected test run the engine for a short period. If the pressure shows normal replace the oil pressure sensor. If the gauge confirms the low oil pressure then you have a serious issue in the engine. It could be:

1. Bad oil pump or oil pressure relief valve

2. excessive clearance in the bearings due to high miles.

Oil pressure gage fluctuates;red oil icon stays on; alarm bell keeps ringing. I added 2 qts of oil. no change.

Hello,I can help you with your buick oil pressure problem. This is the 3800 engine correct? Is engine noisey? Would be best to install a mechnical oil pressure gauge on your engine to see if you are actually losing oil pressure or we have another problem. this tells you exactly what the engine is doing. If you do not have one the cheapest thing to try is replacing the oil pressure sending unit.if sender is defective it will cause your problem. This sending unit is above the oil filter.

What causes the oil light to come on?

The oil light will come on orange if your oil level is low. The oil light will come on red if your oil pressure is low. The oil light will come on, then turn off if your oil level sensor needs replacing. Alex

2001 camaro 3800 eng. when eng is cold oil pressure is high after warms up oil pressure drop very low at idle. why??

When the engine and oil are cold it will show a high pressure because of the viscosity of the oil. When it warms up the oil is thinner. If it doesn't drop below 20-25 psi at warm idle I wouldn't worry about it as that is normal.

Oil pressure is still reading high even though I just changed the filter and oil.

A high oil pressure reading is a good thing, low oil pressure is something to worry about. Normally with a cold start, your oil pressure will remain high until the engine has reached operating temperature, then drop a bit, but again, high oil pressure readings are a good sign of a healthy engine. One other factor to consider is the viscosity of your oil, if your engine uses 5w30 and you switch it to a higher viscosity such as 10w40, you may also see higher oil pressure readings, so be sure you are using the correct oil for your vehicle. I hope this has helped you! :)

Engine 3800 for 98 Park ave. shows oil pressure too high on the gauge. what could cause this

Sounds like your oil pressure sending unit is faulty! When you turn the key on, is the gauge reading low, then you start it and it pegs out? if so, the sending unit has failed.

When car is cold oil pressuer is at 75 lbs when car is warmed uped it drops to 40 lbs (v6 3800) when warmed uped and give it gas it goes up to 60 lbs but when i stop it dropes to 45 lbs why is this please...

When the oil is cold it is thinner or watery and the pump moves more oil as it turns making the pressure go up. As the oil warms up it thickens and the pump moves less oil letting the pressure go down. Increasing the engine speed makes the pump turn faster, therefore it moves more oil and the pressure goes up. Changing oil grades will change the numbers somewhat, for example 10W40 will give you different readings than 5W30. I don't see any problem with the readings you put in your posting. I wouldn't be concerned until the warm idle pressure gets down to about 30 or a little lower. Hope this helps.

Oil Pressure Suddenly Reading in High and Low Ranges

either the oil pressure sender is defective or the pressure relief ball valve in the oil pump is sticking, my money would be on the oil pump pressure relief valve ball sticking.

Slow acceleration, high rpm

This sounds normal to me! The engine will read that rpm when accerlerating lightly. It is the stall of the torque convertor. The oil pressure will always be higher when the rpm's are higher, or when the oil is thicker - cold.

Virbration? That is a different story. Oil won't cause that.
