How to recharge ac

There are many ways to recharge an ac system but to do it correctly is a bit more in-depth. You can read the ac tag under the hood of your vehicle and purchase a can of coolant then hook it up to the low pressure side as shown on the can. Start the engine and follow their instructions. If you have a leak you should add UV dye to the system to locate the leak then repair as needed. To recharge system I recommend purging the system to a proper catchment contaner, recycle the refrigerant as required. Put an ac manifold on the high and low ports of the ac system (they are sized to only fit in the proper location) then attach a moisture removing vacuum pump create a vacuum in the system of 20lbs at sea level or more. Close the high and low pressure valves and disconnect the vacuum pump connect the refrigerant to the vacuum line, start the vehicle, turn on the ac (fan on low) add the amount of refrigerant that your vehicle tag requires.

I am trying to put an AC recharge can into my car and can not locate the valve where the cans dispenser is to be connected to complete this...please help

Attach the end of the recharge hose to the low side pressure port on the passenger's side of the engine compartment, near the firewall. Look for the metal coolant lines and follow the lines to locate the low side pressure port. The port is usually covered by a plastic cap. Screw the discharge end of the recharge hose -- the end without the handle/valve -- to the pressure port.
  • Screw the valve end of the recharge hose onto the top of the can of refrigerant. Turn the handle clockwise to pierce the top of the can of refrigerant. Turn the handle counterclockwise to allow the refrigerant to flow into the hose.
  • Start the Cutlass. Turn on the air conditioning to the maximum setting.
  • Turn the can of refrigerant upside down and gently swirl the can. This moves the refrigerant from the can to the hose and into the air conditioning system.
  • Insert a thermometer into the interior of the center air vent and test the temperature of the air coming from the duct. It should be approximately 35 degrees colder than the ambient air temperature.
  • Add more coolant if necessary. If you are using 12-ounce cans, unscrew the first can and screw the hose onto the second can. Turn the handle clockwise to pierce the top of the can, then turn it counterclockwise to allow the refrigerant to flow into the hose. Do not add more than 24 ounces to the system. Take your Cutlass to a service center if you have added more than 24 ounces to the system and there is no difference in the temperature.
  • Turn off the engine of the Cutlass.
  • Turn the handle on the recharge hose clockwise to seal the can of refrigerant of it is not empty. If it is empty, unscrew the can from the hose. Unscrew the discharge end of the hose from the low side pressure port. Place the colored cap over the pressure port.

Where is the high pressure ac located onn a 1995 olds cutlass ciera

The high pressure side is the line that goes to the condenser in front of the radiator, the low side is the line that goes between the evaporator inside the car to the compressor, the low side usually has a larger line than the high side. If you're planning to add refrigerant it has to go in the low side.

How do I identify the high pressure line to add refrigerant to a 1998 Cutlass?

The high pressure is the wider one, but you need to stay away from it, it's normally used for testing, to recharge the system the one to be used is the low pressure port, most kits only deliver the low pressure quick connector,

Locating the High side and Low side AC gas ports

Easy. find the compressor. The larger hose attaching to the compressor is the "suction" side. This is where you install the refrigerant.

The smaller hose, whether rubber or metal as it travels to the passenger compartment, is the high pressure side.

After installing refrigerant and as the compressor is running, the larger hose will feel cool and the pressure side will feel hot.
