SOURCE: EGR Flow Malfunction, and sometimes a Cylinder 4 Misfire.

How does the oil look? Is it milky or is there any discoloration? Is any moisture or steam vapor coming out of the exhaust pipe? The EGR fault is most likely being triggered from the cylinder missfire. Sounds like you might have a head gasket blown, and/or a cracked or warped cylinder head from the overheating.
You can run a compression test to help determine this.
Good luck...i hope this helps you troubleshoot the problem.

2011 outback 4cyl brake, cruise light flashing, cel on. cruise inop

The clue is the Check Engine Light (CEL). Get the ECU read for the error code(s). The Cruise light turns on when the ECU detect any error.

It may be as simple as a gas cap that is not tight enough.

Subaru code 851

Hi Mr. Wilde, if you were given a code from your OB2 Senor, you can take that code to Pep Boys or Auto Zone who I prefer. Auto Zone will take the code and explain to you what it means. They can also recheck your car or truck if they have time and the correct hook up to check the OB2 sensor or the jack that is located under the dash board. They can then print out for you the codes and the reason why the code has came up and how to fix your problem. It never matters how old or how many miles is on your vehicle. Let me know how that worked for you.

I have "Subaru Outback" 2008. "Check Engine"is on

P0420 Usually indicates a bad catalytic converter or a bad oxygen sensor. Since you car is 2008 my money is on the oxygen sensor. Or it could be something as simple as an exhaust leak. The cruise control will keep flashing until you get the CEL fixed

that code is saying you have a problem with that system. if you go to autozone thay can print that code out for that tells you what to check. other then that you may need to get it diagnosed by a professional

1 Other User Has The Same Problem Posted by camberggren on Nov 26, 2008 I just encountered the same problem on my 96 Subaru after I had the alternator replaced. One user tried the band aid fix of removing the hazard warning flasher 15 amp fuse in position #27 in the engine compartment fuse panel. It could also be a bad lighting relay. I am still troubleshooting the problem. Solution #1 posted on Aug 12, 2008 0%20stars_w.png

The first thing you need to do is figure out if the car has a factory or aftermarket security system them replace the clicking relay accordingly
