Question about 2000 Mazda 626
Today my brother-in-law replaced the alternator in my 2000 Mazda 626. He informed me that the 100amp fuse under the hood blew. Now the radio won't work, or the interior lights, and the locks only work with the ignition on...AND NOW WHEN I TRY TO REPLACE THE ROOM FUSE, IT BLOWS BEFORE I GET IT ALL THE WAY IN...

SOURCE: blown 100amp fuse under hood.
you need to remove the sides of the holder, when you do you'll see a small bolt on each side of the fuse,, these fuses have legs that get bolted down, I believe its a 10mm head on it,, take care when removing them, they disapear quickly as they are so small, and keep track of which wires attached to them go on which side

They may not need to be replaced but they need to be repaired. Somewhere under there in that wire harness you have a power wire that has a bare spot chafed in the insulation. You'll have to unwrap that bundle, the one you jiggle, and check each wire carefully for a bare spot. Start with any wire that is red, pink, orange; those are the normal power wire colors, but don't stop if you find one. There could be more than one. Just tape over the bare spots, you don't necessarily need to replace them. If the wire harness has beeen rubbing on a piece of the car try to reposition it so this doesn't happen again. Zip ties work good for this. Hope this helps.
