NEED A WIRING DIAGRAM FOR THE CHARGING SYSTEM ON A 1995 LINCOLN CONTINETAL

The radio quit then the next day the battery went dead I changed alternator with two different new ones They start out with an output of about 14 volts but drop voltage after running awhile

Have you considered the ignition switch or is that
why you want the wiring diagrams, to see if it supplies
the generator/alt control to the field in alt
We have no info etc,sorry, just use the site as you do
I see where folks say you can register for free on auto zone
site & have access to whatever,try that
Last resort you have a repair shop print what you need
from Alldata that is owned by auto zone

SOURCE: Alternator or Voltage regulator

if you can carefully put a metal wrench on the rotating pulley of the alternator and felt a magnetism attracting the metal wrench, then your alternator is charging. if there is no magnetism, then the alternator is not charging...

another test is to measure the voltage on the small wires that went in to the alternator that says "F" for field, it should measure battery voltage...that is the voltage from the regulator..that means your regulator is working...but the altrntor is not..

without that battery voltage, then the regulator is he culprit...

As dumb as this may sound check the termials and if the u-shape is up then flip it over. I had the same thing happen to me on mine and now it works fine.

ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT SLIPPING OR BATTERY CABLES NEED REPLACING IF THEY ARE THE ORIGINAL ONES.THE VOLT GAUGE COULD BE FAULTY.TO TELL GET A DIGITAL VOLTMETER HOOK TO CAR BATTERY CRANK CAR UP.BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS. WITH NEW CABLES. IF NOT CHECK ALTERNATOR FIELD WIRES FOR DAMAGE ALSO ALTERNATOR POSITIVE WIRE FOR DAMAGE.

On cold start up, starts fine.When i start driving all gauges needles start to sweep.. fuel empty to full spedo 0 to 100 amps and oil gauges sweep back and fourth. emerg brake gos on and off message center flashes battery in red and yellow.
seems like its possessed..

knowing the color codes can be a great help..usually in 12v reg system,from the regulator there are 6 white wire having a stripe codes,blue means neutral,green means field,black means ground to body,white means hot wired to +12v,yellow means to bat charging indicator going to instrument panel and finally red means to ignition....and always secure the regulators case to ground.

1998 trooper new alternator and still not charging and alternator bench tested good,
Check main 80 amp fuse in engine compartment and also check fuses in inside fuse box, there two in that one. first is engine fuse 15amp and the 10amp gauge fuse,

Here is the wiring diagram for the charging system as you asked for , also check connections, follow battery wire off the back of alternator make sure connections are good , that wire runs to engine fuse box and that is one fuse that i said to check it is 80amp, hope this is helpful good day9_30_2012_10_15_05_pm.gif

Maybe.
It means the alternator is not charging the battery.
The battery could have a dead cell, or the alternator could be faulty, or a wiring problem between the two components.
You would need to have the battery and alternator tested.

2000 vw jetta alternator won't charge


the alternator gets power on big wire battery voltage the wire runs to starter, fuse box .alternator fuse goes to automatic shut down relay to relay control in ecm/pcm the field wire comes from ecm /pcm to alt.other field goes back to automatic shut down relay back to charge battery . if not charging at alt. try new alt. and retest.

Sounds as though your battery is not capable of taking
a charge & is in need of replacement.

Was the old alternator tested BEFORE you replaced it

You learn nothing by just replacing things,correct diagnoses
or on a guess

When you say what is that

There a a dozen things that could it be

Battery
Battery Cable issues
Electrical issues such as a bad ignition switch

It starts but quits,so you have an open circuit somewhere

Can not even guess at that, need to see a wiring diagram
after experiencing the problem first hand

Sounds like battery or battery cable problems to me.
If the battery is bad, you cannot trust ANYTHING the computer is telling you. They tend to set all kinds of codes when the battery has a shorted cell. (including fuel pump circuit and transmission system codes) They get "delirious" from malnutrition. You need to have your charging/starting system thoroughly tested.

The fuses and relays are on the back fire wall under the hood.Just remove the plastic cover.This is not a fuse problem but more than likely a bad battery or charging system problem.Check the battery.Have it load tested and have your charging system tested also.Make sure all the cable connections on the battery and alternator are all clean and tight.Hope this helps.Good luck.
