SOURCE: remove ignition switch

U must dis-arm the airbag 1st, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes before you begin work, then remove the airbag, the retaining screws are at the back of the steering wheel down in holes I believe, after that remove the safety clip at the top of the steering wheel threads, then the steering wheel nut, you will need a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel, they are about $10 from any parts store, after the wheel is removed remove the airbag clock-spring rotating contact, then remove the turn signal switch, there will be 3 screws holding the turn signal switch in, remove them, then remove the lower trim under the dash and crawl under and and disconnect the large flat connector at the bottom of column, this will allow u to pull the turn signal switch up and out of the way, don't force anything be patient, under the turn signal switch on the right of the area above the ignition lock cylinder u will see a black headed screw, it may be a tamper proof torx/star screw head or a phillips, remove it, then turn the ignition to the on position and slide the ignition switch out, reverse it all and put it back together. take your time, don't rush, good luck, contact me with any further questions.

SOURCE: I bought a 2004 chevy

THere is a class action law suit and a special recall and replacement. You should have received a mailing from the class action attorney. I just had mine replaced at no charge by the dealership. My speedometer would hover at @ 15 MPH or so despite my speed. I might be able to find the letter from the law suit if you e-mail me I'll scan a copy for you. SeaFarmer@hotmail.com

1999 chevy suburban k1500 4wd eletrical problems?

As far as the speedometer not working and the transmission not shifting; I'd check the speed sensor connection on the tail of the transmission and follow the wiring to see if it is cut somewhere. If the PCM doesn't get a signal from the speed sensor, the transmission won't shift. Did the auto have wires get chewed by rats after sitting?

Why are there two batteries in my 1999 chevy suburban. There is space for an extra battery so I bought two new identical batteries when I bought it. Should I put a switch in it, like a boat, hook them both...

TWO BATTERIES GIVE YOU MORE CRANKING AMPS.SINCE YOU HAVE BIGGER ENGINE.BATTERIES WOULD BE PARALLEL FOR 12 VOLT SYSTEM. THE SERIES HOOK UP WILL GIVE YOU 24 VOLTS.YOU DONT WANT THAT.TOO MUCH VOLTS.
