Question about 1999 Dodge Avenger

1 Answer

1999 Avenger Limp Mode

Ok, after both speed sensors, tcm, and solenoid pack. you can drive a few miles and the engine light will come on and it goes into limp mode. You can pull the battery cable and replace and it will shift fine for a few miles then back to limp mode. I scanned it today and I am getting a P0700 code.....transmission fault. What do I try now. This is becoming too expensive!!!

SOURCE: 1996 dodge avenger when cold, the transmission go in limp mode

Is the vehicle's Check Engine Light on? It should briefly light up when you turn the key on (before you start the engine) to show that the light is working correctly. Based on what I've read I believe you should have one or more trouble codes. A place like AutoZone will read the trouble codes for you for free, and you can look them up here -

SOURCE: I have a 1999 Dodge

As per the code the PCM is faulty. The connection between TCM to PCM has to be checked. But as you mentioned the shift problems and lean mode. This is indication of faulty solenoid pack.the solenoid for the trans A6O6 model is in the trans and you must pull valve body to replace it.Check the readings look at the pressure's if pressure readings are good then solenoid pack gone if the readings are low then its tcm fault. As tcm is replaced so pcm has to be checked and replaced.I suggest get the solenoid pack replaced,as per the fault mentioned, its indicating solenoid pack not functioning. ----------- Thanks.Helpmech.

SOURCE: 96 grand caravan that shifts hard and goes into

This must be your lucky day, to get an answer back this quick. I am dannydoesita, and I just finished fixing the same problem in my 2002 Chrysler Concorde. The problems are the same for all 42Le a606 transmissions. I will take you trough this repair step by step, but I don't know your capabilities or your desire in tackling this project.
1- Turn ignition on off on off on
2- Codes will come up on your odometer, you can also use a scanner tool if you have one
3- You may have a number of different codes, I had p0700, p0731, p0841,p1776.
4- If you have p1776, then the problem is with your solenoid pack
5- If you wish to go farther I will be able to help you mechanically as well as financially.
6- I will guide you step by step through the take apart process and reassembly
Check everything to this point and get back to me. GOOD LUCK.

SOURCE: in limp mode cant get out 96 dodge avenger ES V6

Change your speedometer sensors, one might be bad, but change both to be sure, then reset computer. To get transmission out of safe mode. Check and be sure your transmission fluid is ok while car is running and on flat ground. If low be sure to use right fluid, wrong fluid can cost you a transmission

see this commentary and proceed.with RUN the scanner/computer for easy diagnostic and fix it. God bless you
When you turn the ignition ON before starting the car, the "Check engine" light is supposed to come on indicating that the engine computer (also could be called ECM, PCM, or ECU) is powered on. If the "Check engine" light does not come with the ignition ON, it's possible that there is no power coming to the engine computer (e.g., due to a broken wire, faulty main relay, burnt fuse, etc.) or that there is a problem with the engine computer itself.

Wut is a po700 code on a 2004 doge intreped and how do i fix it

The codes mean P0700 Transmission control system malfunction. Unless you've had an automatic transmission apart before I don't recommend it to do it yourselfers. Better to get a professional opinion and avoid really messing it up. That solenoid is part of the valve body and replacing the valve body requires special tools and a bit of expertise. good luck,

Limp mode on a automatic

Firstly, disconnect the battery and leave it for a few hours. Reconnect and try the car again. This resets the memory in the TCM. If the car picks up the faults again, it will go into limp mode again after a short while. If it's been a while since you changed the fluid, then put some seafoam transtune in to clean all the parts and plates. Then after a few days at least, preferably a week, go for a fluid and filter change. After this, you'll probably find it will go into limp mode again, just disconnect the battery again and reconnect after a few hours. I had the same problem in my chrysler T&C. I left seafoam in it for a week and it cleaned up all of the gum and varnish build up on the shift solenoid pack and plates.

If the problem persists, and after you find it allows you to change gears for a while and then goes into limp mode, it could be gummed up solenoid pack, or input speed sensor.

Go to o'reillys and plug in their diagnostic tool. It should provide you with the fault codes if any. If no codes, then your TCM and ECM are in good shape, and if you're lucky then it'll be something simple like a sensor, or solenoid. Try cleaning it first with seafoam transtune in the fluid for a week.

If all else fails, and their are fault codes, then take the car to a trusted transmission repair shop for a road test. The computer could be picking up slippage and making the car go into limp mode. This could be the clutch plates if no errors with the TCM, ECM are present, and you've ended up checking out the input speed sensor, and solenoid pack. The latter can cause hard shifting and slippage too, if the seed sensor is set to signal when to change gear, but the new oil, or old oil have made the friction slightly different to what it is used to or within factory limits. Firstly try reseting the TCM by disconnecting the battery for a while and see what happens.

Good luck

My 1998 dodge avenger automatic will not shift out of second what will cause this the computer i hooked it up to just gave me these codes po733, po700, po734 the motor is a 2.5

code po700 is what the pcm gets from the tcm when there is a problem with the transmission-anywhere from fluid level, sensor, solenoid, tcm problem, or mechanical problem.
the situation you have with the car being in 2nd gear is called "limp-in" mode. so you can limp-in to a repair center.
