SOURCE: i have a 3406b with alot of blowbye whats the problem

I take it that you are meaning a caterpillar diesel 3406 b 6 cylinder engine. By blow by I take it that you mean smoke from the vent pipe connected to the rocker cover or the plate on the side of the engine. Excessive crankcase pressure (blow by) comes from the high combustion pressures passing the rings (worn rings/broken rings damaged bore) and going to the sump. It also comes about if the bores are glazed up from excessive idling at no load using incorrect injector settings. Glazed bores may be from using a multi grade oil instead of a single grade oil.. Have a compression test done to check engine condition

Re position the clutch point so that it has less than 1/4 inch clearance from engaging the clutch throwout bearing

Or the clutch fork has fallen off the thowout bearing on assembly

I Have a 3406b cat engine in a truck that has a misfire. I have reconditioned the pump and injectors, the engine idles smoothly, however when you increse the engine revs ,there is a misfire . I have not...

I'm assuming that you have changed the fuel and air filters recently. If not it should be done before you try anything else. Check to see if there are any restrictions in the fuel return lines. Any restriction in these could cause your problem. You should also look into getting the valves adjusted, if it hasn't been done recently.

If you have access to a laser heat detector, it would help pinpoint which cylinder is the culprit. This would be useful if nothing is helping. You may have to go inside to fix the problem. I recently came across a Cummins with similar symptoms and it turned out to be a scored cylinder and piston. Hope this helps.

My 3406b caterpillar engine is having excessively high oil levels

HI,
Time to find out why your oil level is going up.
Either coolant in the oil, or fuel in the oil.
Which ever it is the cat engine is not happy. My suggestion would be to get an oil sample test.
Any major diesel repair place will help. Just a little oil in a sterile jar to be analyzed for contaminants.
Coolant is the worst as it will scour the bearings.
Good thing you are concerned.

Hi, whats oil in the distributor mean its a ford spectron, and what do i do to fix it. thanks cahill.

The presence of oil means your bushing in the distributor shaft is worn. There will be a spring pin in one end of the distributor shaft. You take out that pin and slide the shaft out of the housing. Then you will need to replace the bushing and reassemble. Your bushing may be made onto the breaker plate. You may also find a fiber washer on the shaft.

Also check your oil levels for overfilling and the PCV valve. You should not have positive pressure coming out of the breather. If there is excessive "Oil vapor" coming out the engine then you have a condition known as blowbye. Blowbye is caused by worn piston rings which allow combustion chamber pressure to enter the crankcase. This can be the reason excess oil was forced through your distributor.

Oily foam in rocker cover breather pipe

if it has been over heated, problem is head gasket... When it's cold, remove the radiator filler cap.... watch for bubbles, and look for heavy sweet smelling exhaust (this is not always typical). You also may just have alot of blowbye oil.... especially considering the mileage... i would recommend a quality remanufactured long block
