Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Slipping accelerating today I was driving (accelerating) about 25-30 mph when my truck slipped into neutral (i'm guessing) and then back into drive hard. whats wrong? also, the guy I bought it from said it has a slight exhaust leak under the cab and I can her it clicking. doesn't sound air, it sounds like something clicking and after the slip happened I started to wonder if that click was something in the transmission and not an exhaust leak. any thoughts??

Slips from Drive to neutral at 35 mph.

Check the fluid and its level. If fluid smells burnt then clutches inside are slipping if fluid is red and smells ok then you will need someone to diagnose it, possibly a shift solenoid not engaging the 3-4 shift.

Why does my honda civic RPM accelerates in low speeds?

ok good question
is car and Automatic or manual shift. my wild guess is A/T tranny
my wild guess 2 is, the transmission is slipping
you see RPM rise real fast and MPH dont.
this is called slipping and will burn up the tranny if kept up.
did i guess right.

the A/T has over 200 parts and the tests are long.
and repairs, can be huge labor.
The FSM covers all this.

take car to any ASE (USA) cert . mechanic. (see patch on sleeve)
and he will drive it and tell you, in 5min whats bad
engine, or A./T
that is first. i

My 1997 Jimmy runs fine in idle when I take off the vechile is fine until it reaches 20 mph it won't accelerate and the rpms increase up to 3000 but no speed. What's wrong it's a 4 wheel d

Sounds like 2nd gear in the transmission is slipping. Cars usually shift at 15-20 mph from first to 2nd. First check the trans fluid.

Turns off when going on reverse and when turning the wheel without pressing on the gas pedal

I know this might sound dumb, but it has happened to a lot of people - make sure your floor mat (not even a corner of it) isn't on top of the accelerator pedal. Even the slightest weight can cause the pedal to accelerate enough to be noticeable.
Not dumb, it's a good answer. The floor mat can slip forward (and has) in two of our new vehicles when we were driving on the highway. It had worked its way off the anchors and slipped forward, causing the vehicles to accelerate. I put the gearshift in Neutral, pulled off the highway and that was the problem, both times. I don't think it was on top of the gas pedal, underneath, but still pressing or I guess, pulling the pedal down.

All of these are good answers, but if it's an automatic transmission, it might be normal provided the engine performance is ok. Auto trannies have a torque converter stall speed. I have a 96 Cadillac Fleetwood and it will move on its own.

I was driving today in my 2004 Ford Freestar van when all of a sudden the transmission stopped being engaged. I pulled over, no problem with the moter, but it would not slip back into drive reverse etc. No...

I have seen a problem with torque convertors on these vehicles, they will just all the sudden neutral out and that is it no noise no codes nothing... alot of times depending on the failure of the convertor just the convertor can be changed.... what usually happens is the splines inside of the convertor sheer off and once a new convertor is put in everything is back to normal.

Hi There, My Freelander loses power at about 70 mph on hills on motorways and slows down to 60-ish. I have no warning lights coming on, no drop in revs, no exhaust smoke and no overheating. After easing...

if your vehicle slows from 70 downto 60 with no change in revs ,then the transmission is slipping .. imust say i dont believe that the speed drops back without the revs dropping down too, i am not calling you a liar ,i`m saying you are not making accurate observations , and without those we are just guessing .

2002 Ford Ranger transmission slipping?

The longer you drive with that condition, the more damage you will cause. Park it until you can repair it.

Think of it as how long would you think it is okay to run your engine without oil? Zero.
