Could be a bad oil pressure switch, or a bad oil pump. Both will cause this issue. Hope it is the switch b/c the oil pump is a costly repair.

2.7 ? This motor has oil problems if not changed every 3000 miles. Put a chrysler filter on it and the correct weight of oil, never use a fram oil filter.

SOURCE: How many quarts of oil
IT should take 5 quarts with changing the filter. To be on the safe side put 4 quaRTS IN then check it. This applies to the 4 cylinder Eco tech engine.

SOURCE: I bought a 1998 Chrysler
If you are changing the oil yourself then just buy a filter and 5 quarts oil. Drain the oil, remove the old filter and install the new filter, reinstall the oil plug put 4 quarts in and start the engine. After the engine has warmed up shut it off and check the oil level. If you need to add more oil then add it according to what the dip stick indicates.
You might be concerned that running the engine without having the exact full level could cause damage. That shouldn't be a problem as long as there is oil pressure (oil light off).
I hope this helps.
