I ran out of gas now my alfa will not start,did start but when applying gas the vehicle cuts out
When you run out of gas, you sometimes ruin
the fuel pump,it needs fuel to lube it
Check fuel pressure at motor or have a repair
shop look at the pump motor with an oscilloscope,
to see if the motor is ruined or won't pump gas
You could also have other issues & the fuel pump &
gas issue is just a coinidence

reset ecu. turn ignition on. leave it for 90 seconds. turn it off and leave it for 90 seconds. start and run engine at idle for 15 minutes. dont touch the accelerator during processs

I just bought a '99 156 & had the same problem. As long as you have the 4 digit code then all you have to do is drive around for an hour (time the 60 mins!!) & providing you have switched the stereo "on" at the beginning the " - - - - " will appear on the front at 60mins. Then just type in the digits! The Alfa has this "anti theft" device on the stereo which also means every time the battery is disconnected you have to drive around for an hour before you do it again!
