SOURCE: I need to change a 4.3 engine in my 98 4x4 Jimmy,

What we did at the dealership was use a long pry bar and make a slight dent in the body just above the bolt. This is the one on the drivers side. Then use a swivel socket to remove the bolt. Not a socket on a universal joint but a swivel socket. It is a 15mm and a long extension. They only gave us about 8 hours to r and r the engine on this babies and if it takes you longer your working for free.Hope this helps.Good luck.

No if the 98 Transmission has a bolt on bell housing which is identified by it not having a cut out and a bolt on bell housing. The early model from 92 to 97 had the cut out. Here is a link to the gm trans identification guide. So you need a trans from 1992 to 1997 4l60E early model to replace you trans.

It is metric as you probably know. Your best bet would be to call a GMC dealer, ask for parts, give them your vin# and they should be able to give you that information.

Anyone know where the different length bellhousing bolts go on a 1998 expedition?

Hi James, you may be able to get a copy of the diagram for the bell-housing unit along with the bolt sizes from the parts counterman at your local Ford dealership...tell him the dilemma your in, I'm sure he'll help you making a print-out of the shop manual specific to your vehicle.
Otherwise, by the trial and error method, you can take each bolt and place them in one hole at a time (finger tight) and measure out the the distance between the exposed bolt thread (gap) and the head of the bolt; then measure the thickness of the bolt ears of the bell-housing may not be an exact science, but then again, you may get lucky.

I'm pulling a transmission out of a 95 f150 4x4.I have the transmission cooler lines disconnected, drive shaft, tranfercase, dipstick, linkage, 6 bellhouse bolts and it like something else stopping it

have you removed the bolts holding the torque converter to the flex plate as the torque converter should be pulled with the transmission and not separately
make sure that there is not a bell housing bolt from the front going back into the bell housing

Replace Slave Cylinder 2002 VW transporter

The heading is replace slave cylinder of 2002 vw transporter. Why would you be removing the tranny to do this job as the slave cylinder is on the outside of the bell housing. IT is normal to remove the bell housing with the tranny as they are normally one unit as the bolts are inside and cannot be reached until the tranny is on the ground. Having said that, if there are 4 bolts in a flange outside the tranny proper and the bell housing is tightened with these bolts then you can remove the tranny separate to the bell housing.
