If you have some cooling, but not enough, then chances are that the system is low on freon. The only reason a system would need freon is because the freon leaked out. If the leak is not sealed before recharging with freon, the freon will eventually leak out again. Leak repairs are expensive so if it's a small leak it may be more cost effective to recharge the system every two or three years. Freon recharging is not a do-it-yourself job. Only people certified to handle refrigerant (freon) are allowed to recharge an air conditioning system. OR 1. Extremely dirty air filter restricting the airflow through the inside unit. 2. Extremely dirty (clogged) cooling coil restricting airflow AND IF IT IS LEAKING If you do not see ice build-up on the larger copper tubing (covered with a black, sponge insulation) when you run your system, then you probably have a clogged drain line. A clogged drain line is usually caused by algae build-up inside the drain line. And yes, there is something you can do to prevent this condition. Algae is a living plant and will grow in your drain line until it clogs the line. The air handler provides a cool, damp environment for development of molds and mildew and if left untreated these growths can spread into your ductwork. If only moderate to light buildup is present then there are chemical disinfectants specifically designed for use in air handlers that will kill the existing mold and mildew and control new growth. These disinfectants are safe and very effective and are applied by simply spraying into the filter intake and by placing "Algae Strips" directly in the drain pan. If the coil has mold or mildew present then it also should be treated. Make sure that the face of the cooling or evaporator coil is clean so that air can pass through freely. HOPE THIS HELPS :)

The temperature blend door on the driver's side might be broken or stuck. Also, if this vehicle does not have the correct amount of refrigerant, it will do what you are describing.

Hi,check if the compressor clutch is engaging,if not check the conection at the compressor if ok check,fuse ,or relay ,if those are fine and the commpressor is engaging,check freon presure ,may be too high or low, if this is the case ,correct the problem and disconect the negative cable from the battery for a minute to reprogram the sistem..C1

What you will be looking for (in your engine compartment) looks almost like a large valve stem that you would see on a tire. It will probably have some kind of plastic cap on it.
It shouldn't be that difficult to find. You may want to search for an engine compartment diagram for your make/model/year vehicle.

Hello I'm a M.B. tech. 1st you need to know why the freon is low. Hopefully it just needs to be serviced. There is a component located in the lf of the engine compartment called a receiver drier. It soaks up the moisture in the freon so the gases can work the way they are supposed to. On this unit there should be 2 switches(I believe they were combined into one switch in 98. 1 switch is a temp switch that operates your electric fans, the other is a compressor cutoff switch. Assuming the compressor is not coming on-take a fused wire and bridge the 2 contacts- If the compressor does not come on at all there is another problem(it is not low on freon. On the condenser there is a high side port(it is the bigger of the 2)By the brake master Cyl.(lf of the engine compartment thereshould be a smaller low side valve in line with the fuel cooler hose. Usually you can hook up a machine to the low port and **** freon in through that port. Assuming you do not have a refrigerant machine. It is very self explanatory on the bottle of r 134a refrigerant which can be purchased at your local auto supply store. I would start with 1 lbs. and add dye with the freon in case there is a big leak. If the system is overcharged it will not cool properly. I believe the system capacity is approx. 2 lbs. Add a few ounces after the first pound until a/c system is cooling properly and the electric fans are also coming on when the system gets to high. If you get a can with a good Gage set on it you should see the high side between 150 and 2000 psi(fan coming on at max. press.) also the low side should read about 35. It is about the temp of the evaporator which is i=located in the dash and the blower blows through this component out through the vents. Hopefully I have been helpful.
