Question about Cars & Trucks
I took it to Mavis and they couldn't tell me what it meant. My check engine light was NOT on but it is now going off and on for good lengths of time. As well my speedometer is acting funky. Sometimes it works and sometime it doesn't. These issues dont seem to be connected, they hardly ever sync up. Mavis wont fix it unless they know what the code means and Hyundai wants $200 just to tell me what the code means! Please help me. Thank you for your time
You mentioned Hyundai so I will assume that is the brand of car. Four digit codes are brand specific.
Code 1707 is for a problem with the brake switch. Depending on the year of the car, the brake switch circuit could be causing problems with the engine computer as well as the speedo.
Usually when the speedo acts up the problem is the speed sensor in the transmission, but you should have a code for that too.

When I see all these codes i instantly think of two things. Vacuum leak especially intake manifold gaskets and Mass air flow sensors. Spray the engine with carb cleaner when its running and see if you get it to rev up,run rough or run different. Next unplug the MAF and drive the car, see if it runs normal.

"Fuel system too lean at idle". It's an air/fuel ratio that is not correct, possibly a vacuum leak somewhere. Or a leaky exhaust pipe. Could be related to intake manifold gasket. Somewhere, air is getting into the engine.
I suggest taking it back to the dealer under warranty. I think Hyundai is 10yr./100k for the original owner. 5yr./50k if not. Ask first if covered, and ask why not id not covered.
