Question about 1998 Ford Escort
Vt comordore won't start in park or nuetral. When I turn key it may crank but then turn key again and nothing no sound. If I wiggle gear stick in park or nuetral it will crank but no start still. Is it possible. Could be the inhibitor switch on automatic transmission. Or what could it be I have tested power going to starter and ignition barrel has been replaced new.

If your starter is turning but not turning the engine over then the "bendix drive" in the starter needs to be replaced. This requires disassembly of the starter once it is off the truck. Usually the best bet is to replace the starter unless it is new in which case the bendix is probably defective.
It's a remote possibility that there may be damage to your ring gear on the flywheel, but that can be checked when you have the starter off the truck. Just look at the teeth in the starter hole and make sure none are missing or chipped or narrower than the rest. They probably are but it doesn't hurt to check. Hope this helps.

If as you say the starter motor & the imobilisor test ok . have some one hold the key in the start position & check voltage at starter motor to ignition switch wire.ignition switch may be at fault

SOURCE: My 01 explorer sport won't
It sounds like a fault in the starter circuit. It could be a defective neutral safety switch, starter solenoid, or possible a defective ignition switch but I doubt it. Can you hear the starter solenoid??? I'm willing to bet the problem is either with starter relay, neutral safety switch, or starter solenoid.

This sound is the relay, Is the battery new if more than 1 and 1/2 yrs. you need to replace your battery.
Is your engine cranking when start, if not, the battery need to be replace.

Have you checked for 12 volts coming in going out of the the starter solenoid switch that is mounted passenger side fenderwell.

Testimonial: "No but that is logical; thanks! You can start the truck by 'jumping out' that same solenoid."
