SOURCE: 1999 saab 9-3 wheel bearing removal

You need air tools, many differnet size sockets and a press. The strut/spindle and lower control arm have to come out all together. leaving the axle in the car.The spinlde cannot be removed from the strut. once removed, you can then unbolt the lower control arm ball joint nut, and seperate the lower control from the spindle - for ease for the press. press the hub out, remove the snap rings on either side and press the old bearing out. press in new bearing , install snap rings, press the hub in and reinstall. I just did one today... I have 15 years experience as a ford tech - Ugh bro.. - Josh

Not 100% sure on size, but ask for TORX socket to fit hub bolts on your vehicle, at local autoparts store.

SOURCE: Trying to replace the driver side wheel bearings

The ball joint bolt must be removed...then a long bar preferably a spud bar can be place across the lower A arm and presure can be applied. If it is stubborn, have someone to hit the side area of the ball joint without missing and hitting the threads on the ball joint. If you are afraid of damaging the threads, you can hand screw the nut back on the ball joint just enought to protect it. Then with the presure on the spud bar...hit it a couple of times...it will turn loose. You can take the nut off of the CV shaft at this point...maybe a 28mm socket, not sure. You will need to take the brakes off to gain access to the bearing and spindle. You have a few bolts to remove there. At this time you can decide whether you want to replace the whole spindle or have a machine shop press a new one in. Use a Timken bearing...I don't like to advertize for a company, and I don't like doing a job over because a part that failed. Take this advice and you will be glad you did. Just repeat the process to get the axle back in. You should be able to place the axle out of your way without taking it out of the trany...if you do expect to have trany fluid running out so have a bucket ready. If you have to take the axle out...it prys loose from the trany with a pry bar...good luck.

SOURCE: I need a diagram of the front wheel bearing

These are pressed in. You have to press the hub out first(center part), then there is a C clip that has to be removed to press the bearing out. If you don't have a 20 ton press take it to a shop. Costs about$30.00

As with any manual transmission, light or heavy duty, popping out of gear usually means worn out syncronizer.

Hub won't go over new brake shoes

You need to do a few things. When the brakes were wearing, the adjusters expanded to compensate. These are usually called "star wheels" and they need to be adjusted back in. There can also be adjustment on the caliper pistons for some cars.

The emergency brakes have an automatic slack adjuster if you use the E brakes and this needs to be released from the cable spool.

Also check the new linings. There are long and short linings in each kit. It is possible to put both long shoes on 1 axle and both short shoes on the other.

In general, you service the star wheels with lube on the threads and then adjust the linings to allow for the drum to go over the shoes. Torque the wheel to the axle and then adjust the star wheels to grab the wheel and then back off 8-10 notches.

I have a 50s model jaguar wheels are seized up

its been stud for a long wile. you need to get the old oils out gear box engine oil /dif oil and put new oil in. then you need to take the wheels off and need to spray deep penetrating oil into the shafts. dif etc then this is going to be the worst part brake the brake pads of the front wheels clean the disc's and check piston for leaks as the rubber seal may have gone from rust. do same to drums on back. after all this is done it should be all right to move them but take it slow a few moves at a time. did all this to a jaguar sat for 30 years in a grass field underneath was nearly rotted through but was not my car and it is now all fixed and in car shows now. what ever you do don't try to run it with the engine, pull it with another car. can blow the gear box or engine or dif if you try to use the engine.only when it is free use the engine.

Look on the back of the wheels by going under the vehicle. and tell me if you see a light oil. I am sure yours is a sealed pumkin. If not the oil in the pumkin may have leaked out
