Question about 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6L

Open Question

Code p0017 came up on my 2008 CTS. My mechanic told me that it was a timing chain problem. I took it to cadillac today. They told me it had to do with either how often I changed the oil, or I had the wrong oil put in. They also said that the light kept coming on because it had never been reset. I know that's not right, because my guy reset it! By the way, after they "reset the computer" the light came on again on the way home? So what's really going on?

SOURCE: reset oil life display after oil change?

THIS SHOULD BE IT.
How do I reset the Engine Oil life monitor and how does it work? TO reset To reset the Engine Oil Life monitor do the following:
Reset Oil life in NAV/DIC by (with car running) going to INFO>Oil Life>RESET
Press and HOLD until XXX turns to 100%
How does it work? The oil life monitor is a pretty sophisticated algorithm.

GM "The GM Oil Life System will automatically adjust the oil change interval based on engine characteristics, driving habits and the climate in which the vehicle is operated."

SOURCE: Have a 2003 Cadillac CTS that I first smelled a

Hello, I dont know if I can help you or not but this is what was going on with my car: It had the same smell coming out after the car was warm enough. It smelled like rubber burning. I took it to the GM Goodwrench and they thought it was just a loose nut that caused an oil leak. So they fixed that but it still had that smell. We discovered it was our power steering fluid leaking onto the engine. Now maybe your smell is from leaking transmittion fluid and the car's security systems are a pain in the ****. They will lock the car from starting if it thinks you hurt the car. I dont know if this helped but I hope it did.

Pull the inner fender down and back.
Reach your arm in and grab the socket and squeeze the locking tab.

My 2008 CTS caught fire 11/30/2014 its back for repairs for the third time. can you troubleshoot it for me

not really because you have not exactly said what was burnt or what the current symptoms or codes are.
If you want help we will need as much information as possible as to the make is, engine size what was burnt, what repairs were carried out--all that sort of stuff that you will have told your mechanic when the problem occurred.

P0017 on a 2006 caddilac

Try a different shop
$2000. so far---- for diagnostic time??? & no results
If you use Google & type in 2006 Cadillac CTS POO17
there are plenty of sites, blogs & manufacture answers to the problem for your motor
I would guess the timing chain jumped- as odd as that is ,compared to a rubber belt that does that all the time
You really have been at a shop that has never checked bulletins
or gone to the internet BEFORE a road test or opening the hood
You can't work on todays cars that way ,you need help up front
Most people fail to use full synthetic oil, have no idea what is put
in the motor verse what should be & have no idea when the oil
was changed
If you fail to change your oil at 3 to 4,000 miles the Cam Actuators
fail or Solenoids clog up & you have similar issue to what you have
People think you can drive todays high tech vehicles & forget
what we did from the 1950's thru 1980's Still have to do lots
of oil changes & lots of testing though out the year BEFORE
you have issues

2008 cadillac throwing p0008 code what does this mean

Hello, this code indicates a problem with the cam timing. in most cases the timing chain is the problem. the engine control module can no longer adjust cam timing to the proper spec while running. this normally requires the timing chain to be replaced. this is covered under the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty thru GM

Have the transmission fluid changed/new filter and use a premium synthetic fluid instead of cheap ol generic fluid. Think mobil1 full synthetic for the tranny. If it's never been changed this will make a dramatic difference.
