My steering wheel and ignition are locked up. i cannot get it to turn over or anything. when i try to turn the key forward or backward it does nothing. i dont really know anything about cars and cannot figure it out. i have tried disconnecting the battery in hopes that it would reset or something... but it did nothing.
Sounds like the tumblers in the lock cylinder have jammed. Or there is an excessive amount of pressure on the steering wheel.
Have you tried another key ?
Testimonial: "it doesnt feel like there is any pressure on the steering wheel. it will move about 1/8th of an inch or so in both directions and then just stop suddenly. i do not have another key."
Try moving the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key.

sounds like you have an ignition lock engaged. try turning the a little bit back and forth and wiggling the key. that should unlock the ignition

Try cranking the steering wheel to the side really hard and at the same time turn the key.

Remove the lower steering column cover and check to see if the rod from the ign. lock and tumbler to the ignition switch is binding up. If it's ok, you're problem may be the bearing under the steering wheel being broken.
