IF YOU HAVE NO HARD START PROBLEMS, COLD OR HOT, I WOULD START WITH A PC SCAN FOR CODES, EMISSIONS TEST & FUEL PSI CK. IT COULD BE AS SIMPLE AS A VACUUM LEAK. THAN SCAN PC FOR CODES (TPS, IDLE SPEED SOLINOID. OR RUNS LEAN OR RICH- VAC LEAKS AIR/ GF, INJECTORS FUEL PSI ETC. START WITH THE BASICS. AIR, FUEL & SPARK/ TIMING. GOOD LUCK FRANK M

Occasionally when you first start the car the brake pedal will barely move and it is hard to stop the vehicle when rolling in the driveway, like the power brakes aren't working.

Power brakes are operated by engine vacuum. It sounds like you may have a leak in the power brake vacuum system, so when the engine isn't running, the vacuum leaks away, and you have no "power" in your power brakes. Once the engine is running, the vacuum is built up over several seconds, and you have power for braking again.

I would check the vacuum lines for cracking and the power brake module for vacuum leaks.

What would cause engine yo die at a stop light and not start again. The engine almost turns over but doesnt.

engines stopping at lights can sometimes be attributed to a vacuum leak in the brake booster
test by idling the engine with the hand brake on and no foot brake then apply the foot brake and if the engine dies then it is the brake booster
hard to restart may be the vacuum leak if you still have your foot on the brake.

2006 Nissan Sentra. Belts squeaks and stop seeking when you step on brakes.

If I understand this, your fan and other belts driving components in the engine bay stop squeaking when stepping on the brake? Your belts may need some adjustment to tighten. But it may be a vacuum hose leaking around the power brake chamber, or it is leaking, and sounds like the squeeking you describe. I would temporarily confirm the belt squeak by using a "Belt dressing spray" from your auto parts store, to see if it really is the belt or a possible vacuum leak. My belts squeak sometimes after the first start of the day in cold weather since the alternator is working very hard to recharge the battery after the start. It will be quieter when the engine is slowed down as in your braking scenario.

2000 jeep grand cherokee has sluggish idle sometimes doesnt stay started

You could possibly have a bad EGR valve which would affect the vacuum which affects the idle. Check for a vacuum leak first then check the egr valve

What causes the engine to stop when at idle?

The first thing to look for is vacuum leaks, commonly found in the rubber fittings on the end of the plastic vacuum lines.

Check for a vacuum leaks use a air pressure gauge most come with instructions. It may be a failed gasket or airline. If it is a Vacuum leak usually the mechanic has to use a smoke machine to find it unless it is very obvious. Try plugging vacuum line for the power brakes if the car has a vacuum assisted brake instead of a hydraulic one. Sometimes the diaphragm fails in the power brakes unit or the seals leak. Remember when you test this there will be no brake assist and In some cars you have to stand on the brakes for the car to stop. .

yes it can you need to find the leak. vacuum line also controls the fuel into the engine. also clean the idle vale and change the air filter. you can use some washing up liquid with some water in a spray bottle to find the leak if you cannot hear it. run engine and spray onto the vacuum lines when it starts to make bubbles there is the leak. sometimes if it is a bad leak it will suck up the water and leave a dry patch

Engin starts revs to 2500 then drops and dies, also brakes very difficult to come to a complete stop.

This sounds like a bad vacuum leak, the brake system uses vacuum to power the brakes, if theres not enough vacuum to brake booster then the pedal will be hard to push and stop the car, open the hood and start and listen for a hissing sound, follow vacuum leaks and look for broken or aff vacuum lines. hope this helps.
