And no will ever tell you
You will need an ATRA Service Manual for that
model trans
They are a thin book about $20.00 you can buy at a
local trans supply wholesaler or internet trans parts
places the shops deal with.
Once you drop the valve body your screwed with it
in the vehicle
I once owned a tran shop
You could call trans star or the hard parts
suppliers & ask if they have a valve body
diagram or could fax you one.
You never ever will get someone to tell you
on the internet.

SOURCE: I need to locate the tranmission conrtol solenoid

I don't know what engine you have or if 2 WD or 4 WD.

The link below is for a 2 WD 4 cylinder engine.
It's a picture of your part so that you might can identify the item on your transmission:

I hope this helps...

Hard shift low to second

In general-- a transmission that is failing

You can remove the valve body & clean it,
just keep in mind all the check balls fall out,
so you will need a diagram of it

After that-- you have to diagnose & replace any
shift solenoids that apply

Old vehicle & trans,I wouldn't change solenoids or
try adjusting bands, unless you have trans repair experience

Motor cranks but wont fire up

Have you tried a little quick start or WD-40 spray down throttle body, then try? If it fires up for a second or so, you have a fuel delivery problem obviously.

1996 Dodge Dakota 3.9 Starts and then shortly after dies. I can keep it running by giving it gas. I have cleaned the throttle body and replaced the PCV Valve. Does same thing. What other problems...

The Pcv Valve never really needs changing. It only regulates air flow thru the crank case, and can be cleaned ,with brake clean or mineral spirits. It has nothing to do other than that.
Cleaning the Throttle Body does little either, other than making it look nicer, unless it is sticking.
You may want to check out the Air Idle Control Valve or Solenoid,on the throttle body. That, you may be able to clean and free it up, or replace.
If getting it to idle and stay running is your only issue,I hope that helps.
If other issues, tell us what they are.

My 1999 Dodge Dakota 2WD, 3.9 V6, has major hesitation shifting from 2nd to 3rd and also downshifts in and out of OD at about 55 to 60 mph. Above 60, it wants to stay in 3rd only. Took valve body off and...

Is the 1-2 shift high also? When you had the valve body off did you check the screens on the governor solenoid and the 3-4 shift solenoid? These tend to plug up.

I have a 99 dodge dakota w the codes po 753 and po 720

Just ask for the 3,4 shift solenoid, in which case the transmission pan has to be taken off, the filter, and possibly the valve body to get at the solenoid, I don't have my manual right now, so I can't tell you which solenoid it is.
The speed sensor is usually screwed into the side of the tranny near the back end of it, don't confuse it with the back up light switch, that's screwed in somewhere in the center of the tranny. Hope this helped a little. Good Luck.
