I have a 1989 mercedes-Benz 300sel, and I need to know where I would begin looking to fix my air conditioner. I don't have much car experience, but this is where I'm starting.

1989 is R 12 gas which is CFC poisonous and must be vacated and filled with R 134 which will not work very well in this system ,Right i have given the political correct answer here ,now most likely cause is all systems lose gas so i would assume it just needs a top up and this depends which country your in as to the availabilty of R 12 gas ,it will work with R 134 but it will not be as cold as the compressor is a different pressure and the cooling rad on the front of the car is a lot smaller as the R 134 needsa a bigger rad owing to the different properties of the gas ,consult a local garage that does AC for the best local advice

If you want to learn car maintenance by working on your own vehicle, you should buy a manual, they are available from companies such as Haynes. Everything you need to know about your vehicle and where everything is located on the car is in these very good books, they have a step by step guide to all the jobs and include photos to help locate the various parts.

I have a 2004 Mercedes Benz CLK320 don't know why

Try using the second key if you have one. Does the key not working look like it is bent? The ignition cylinder may just be worn to the point that it needs to be replaced.

Air conditioner isn't blowing cold air

Could be a number of things...electrical connections causing the compressor not to run. Turn on AC and turn your thermostat all the way to cool...now visually check to see if compressor is engaged and not just free wheeling. Most likely you lost your refridgerant due to leak in the system...would need to find leak and repair then have your system re-charged with refridgerant. Best case scenario...your system just needs a charge of refridgerant due to not having enough.

All the gauges stopped working on a 1989 mercedes 300sel and I suspect a relay that is bussing. The part # is 201-821-00-47. The relay is 3 1nches long by 1 1/4 in wide by 2 1/4 in tall.

happened to me the same thing taday on a 1988 190E, just noticed that brake lamps and reverse lamps didn´t work either, fuse was OK but I replaced it anyway and now everything is working fine
