What will cause an engine to lock up? it was knocking before it locked up and what is best options available.

Christina, If the motor wash knocking and has now locked up, I am afraid the engine has, what they call blown.
Have checked by a good technician, but by the sounds of it, engine will need replaced.
Way your options though get estimates to see if worth fixing or replacing car.

My 2002 envoy engine locked up while it was parked????

It can happen. Usually caused from the oil being low or going low to many times. When it cools down, the bearing will seize on the crank shaft. Also seen the A/C compressor lock up and keep the engine from turning. Both can be checked.

Where do find the vapor lock on my 1999 Buick century

Vapor lock occurs when the gas in a fuel line turns from liquid to vapor, before it reaches the engine. The first signs of vapor lock are normally when your engine begins to run roughly. The engine may sputter and hesitate. It will then stall completely and refuse to restart. It may seem like the car is out of gas or the fuel pump has failed. While these are possibilities, vapor lock may be the problem.

What caught 94 corvette engine to lock up, oil was in the engine

Just because oil is in the engine doesn't mean that the oil was getting circulated through the engine. If there was an issue with the oil pump or if the engine was sludged up and had critical oil passages blocked, engine failure would be the end result.

Car engine locked up

Do you mean the timing belt, or the serpentine belt ?
The serpentine belt could lock up the engine if one of the pulleys was froze. Sometimes the alternator or power steering pump will lock up.
But if the belt is off the engine it would have no effect.

Will a compression test will let me know if my engine is locked or seized

If you believe the engine is locked you should put a wrench or socket on the crankshaft bolt and see if you can turn it (turn it clockwise)if it turns your engine it not locked or seized. to do a compression test the engine must spin with the starter. if an engine is locked or siezed a compression test is impossable. If this was helpful please leave good feedback

Dealership said that i over flowed the coolant and it spilled over and and it leaked onto the lower intake & locked up the engine, it is still locked up after replacing the lower intake. Now they are...

Overfilling will not lock-up the engine. There is probably another cause for the engine to be locked-up. A starter can be locked against the flywheel. The engine oil can be contaminated or broken down causing bearing failure. Excessive fuel in cylinders can lock an engine. Hope this helps :)

I drive jetta 4 1.6 , while driving car lock itself steering wheel lock and engine stop running in the middle of freeway or every time after 1km then must stop car start engine again

As only the ignition key can lock the steering wheel and stop the motor at the same time I would suggest you replace the ignition lock. This is dangerous. Get it checked out.

1993 lumina engine locked up

the problem may have been as simple as a locked up alternator. Did you check too see if it was changed? The alternator will simulate a locked up engine. If an engine locks up you wont be able to get it running. The crank welds itself to the bearings or the rod locks up tigh. I suspect your engine was fine from the start.

Locked via keyless with engine running

Most newer cars have a safety feature that locks the door when the ignition is turned on or the car is put in gear. This can sometimes be a problem, as you found out, if the keys are left in the ignition in the on position and you get out of the car shutting the door sometimes this safety feature kicks in and locks the door on you with the keys in the car. I understand this was a mistake on your part, thinking you did take the keys, but if you ever just stop with the car running and jump out to run in the house, roll down the window enough to get your arm in to unlock the door.
