Question about Cars & Trucks

Need ignition wiring diagram for 1996 ford 6 cyl truck

My dad was having problems getting his truck to start, its usually the clutch pedal isnt down hard enough (through the floor). Then his starter went out, I replaced, worked fine for me, he went to try to adjust and/or bypass the switch for clutch pedal. Now truck doesnt start at all. I want to make sure he hasnt put wires back in wrong places or done more than check under hood fuses like he said and there is a mystery blue wire hanging down under dash by pedal assembly, curious where it use to go.

One of the problems with trying to post photos on here. This is another attempt. You may have to go to an internet search like google.

That second attempt was 50% bigger than the first and it turned out the same on my screen. Limits of this website.

If you use google but look for images you should find wiring diagrams posted to other sites. You can also try autozone.com and use their repair guides for free. You just have to register.

They may not need to be replaced but they need to be repaired. Somewhere under there in that wire harness you have a power wire that has a bare spot chafed in the insulation. You'll have to unwrap that bundle, the one you jiggle, and check each wire carefully for a bare spot. Start with any wire that is red, pink, orange; those are the normal power wire colors, but don't stop if you find one. There could be more than one. Just tape over the bare spots, you don't necessarily need to replace them. If the wire harness has beeen rubbing on a piece of the car try to reposition it so this doesn't happen again. Zip ties work good for this. Hope this helps.

Starter on truck is not starting truck

There are safety switches on the brake pedal lever(automatic) or clutch pedal lever(stick) depending on year. What usually happens is that your feet bump or break the switch and you lose the starter pulse. This switch is suppose to prevent "runaway" vehicles by insuring that your foot is on the brake pedal or clutch when you use the starter. Look under the drivers dash on the brake or clutch lever.

There can also be another switch on some models that is for safety and insures the gearshift is in Park. Finally, some ignition switches have adjustments where they attach to the steering column. The ignition switch has slots which allow the adjustment.

The loss of your signal to the starter relay can be verified by using a Voltmeter on the small wire of the starter relay, then backtrace the above switches to restore the signal.

Diagrams are on the Web by doing a search specific for the year, make, and model followed by which part you want to find. (example -fusepanel or powerbox)

My 95 ford ranger won't start. it's a manual transmission with 227,000 miles on it. We've replaced the solenoid, the battery, and the starter and alternator are both working fine. When we try to start it,...

With a manual tranny, check the clutch pedal position sensor/switch. It should be activated by the clutch pedal arm. So follow the clutch pedal arm up under the dash to find it.
You need to lower steering column to get at the ignition switch. I'm not talking about the key cylinder.
Any testing make sure the tranny is out of gear and functional parking brake is set. I guess you have already done some testing? Is there a security system?
If you need wiring diagram, holler.

My apologies for the delayed response.
I am personally going back to answer your unanswered questions.

I do not know if you have the 3.8L (6-Cyl) or the 4.6L (8-Cyl) Engine, however I have included the information on the 3.8L and a Link for the 4.6L. I am pretty sure your engine is the 4.6L based on the LX Model.

For the 3.8L:
Cylinders:
(back of engine
3----------6
2----------5
1----------4
(front of engine)
Ignition Connections:
(back)
1----2----3
5----6----4
(front)

Click on the following Link for the 4.6L:
