There is no dipstick on these vehicles like u
will find on older american cars.
The transmission fluid can
only be checked when the transmission fluid temperature is between 35 to
45 degrees celcius.
The only way to know the fluid temp
is with a diagnostic scan tool. At that point you remove the fill plug in the bottom of the transmision
pan and fill with fluid until fluid drains back out. Use only genuine
VW fluid part number G 052162A2 or you will damage the transmision. If
you fill with fluid while tranny is to cool you will over fill and
damage the transmission. If you fill with fluid when the tranny is to
hot you will underfill and run a slight risk of damaging the
transmission. The fill plug and drain plug are next to each other so
make sure you are removing the right one.

Find the transmission filler tube under the hood. Get a funnel, and fill. Do not overfill, and use proper tranny fluid for your cars' specifications. Your user manual should have a capacities index, and the type of trans. fluid to use listed somewhere in the manual. Hope this helps.
engines for petrol have gearbox different ratios for diesel so you will have to find a complete transmision.PLUS all the computer/engine management systems(whole fron end)and wiring loom NOT RECCOMENDED....look up morego.co.uk for a tuning chip(135 bhp plus more mpg.)much more sense and cheaper......
the passat has no dip stick so no way to fill from there VW says transmision never needs fluid , however there is a plug on side of transmision [passanger side] that you can access fluid remove plug check level with finger should be at tip and add from there , very difficult.
This will probably need done by Service center. They decided not to put a dipstick in the transmission, instead there is a small yellow plastic cap that I believe they need to check with an instrument.
I found the same problem with mine after taking it to the dealer ship
for a factory recall. It was shifting good but when they finish the
