Question about 2005 Nissan Maxima SE
Squeeking when wheel turns, braking, over bumps. I changed lower control arm and fender wall motor mount. front was recently changed too but the sound is still there with a small thump like another motor mount is bad (T-mission mount?)when I pull off. feelslike it is at the bottom of the steering column? hard to figure out!!!!!
The steering column shaft mounts to the rack and pinion steering gear with a type of u-joint and a pinch bolt to hold the steering column shaft tight on the rack and pinion stub shaft. This coupling may have gotten loosened, so you should check it. It is all hidden by the boot over the steering column on the floor. If you can get the boot to slide upward a bit, I think you can see the coupling. Or, you may need to look at it from underneath. The rack's stub shaft is on top of rack right where the steering column would come from the floor.
Here's an idea: put the front up on jack stands or blocks. Then you could watch and listen while someone turns the steering wheel back and forth.

I would ask you why you want to change the mounts? They usually are not a problem unless the car was in a crash. Can you see that they are broken? If it is just engine shaking due to rough idle then the motor mounts will not solve this. You will need to find out what is causing the misfire to smooth it out.

I have a 1994 explorer that did the same thing and what I had to do is change the radius arm bushings as well as ball joints and tie rod ends - this seemed to fix it, however yours may be a little different but that is where I would start
