Question about 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Coming home from work start running ruff no power then stalled out then would it turn over put in new battery today same problem
Does it turn over? If not check the starter connections... if good try banging the starter while trying to start the car, if that does work you need a new starter... If not check power to starter, and clean up grounds. If voltage & grounds are good and still doesnt start remove starter and bench test it.
If it does turn over... Check ignition system and fuel system for possible faults

Your problem sounds like it may be a Mass Air Flow sensor, when it does run bad disconnect the sensor, if the engine starts running ok the sensor is bad, this would be the most common reason for your problem and why it is only intermittent. As far as the overheat do you have a coolant leak?
