SOURCE: elantra rear brake replacement

hiya the rear disc brakes are as front disc brakes auto adjusting however the rear brake calipers pistons have to be wound back into the caliper to enable new pads to be fitted if you look at piston you will see they have either slots or holes in the surface this is for a sutable implement/tool to fit and then turned clockwise whilst pressing piston as you wind/rotate it back into caliper for your info there is a tool made for this purpose made by draper or seeley tools which makes job easy diy and cost £9--99 uk and can be bought from most auto stores ? however it is possible to manage with the spanner with horse shoe open end commonly supplied with circular hand saws the spanner is the one used for replacing blade? i have used this in past with success but now have the expensive univesal tool for the job hope this helps?

Open up the tail gate, you will see two torque screws on the inside beside the tail lights. take these out, this will free up the housing and you can change it from there.

Depending on what it is leaking it could be axle seals or wheel cylinders

Bleed brakes

You start with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder. That would be the rear right wheel. Then the left rear wheel, the the front right, and finally the front left. Then repeat in same order order until you get no more air out of the lines.

good chance you have a leak in your break line. easy way to check is have someone press break while you look under the car. best position is just behind wheel look for fluid to spray out you will see a break line from the axel area to your wheel gl

I have a 1998 dodge ram 3500 dually and I took the drivers side drum off to replace the pads & wheel cylinder & the pass-side has the e brake towards the rear of the truck & dside the e brake...

Yes the longer of the two pads go to the rear,it must go opposite of where cable enters the set up. Its done that way to insure the ebrake holds forward and backwards. Good luck

I HAVE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE REAR PASSAGER WHEEL HOW CAN I FINE WHERE IT IS COMING FROM.

Hi, it is likely your brake wheel cylinder has failed. You would need to jack up the van and remove the wheel and drum to verify. See photo below and let me know if you would like instructions for replacing the cylinder. The part is about $12 at Autozone.

I lost nearly all break pressure while driveing my brake and ABS light turned on. So I bleed the brakes and the truck seemed to be working fine then 5 days later i again lost all break pressure with all...

does the truck have rear drum brakes on the rear? if so then the fluid is leaking out of the rear wheel cylinders. or the master cylinder is leaking fluid into the brake booster.

98 dodge caravan just changed master cylinder and the pedal still goes t6o the floor was doing this before also

Check the fluid level in mastercylinder first. Inspect brake lines for any leak. Also it could be a leaking caliper piston on the front brakes or a wheel cylinder on the rear. Will have to remove the tires on front to inspect and if you do not have rotors on rear you will have to remove the brake drums to inspect for a leaking wheel cylinder. Hope this will help you.

Brakes not working somebody put transmission fluid in master cylinder

2 choices / flush the brake system and bleed it or cut hole in floor and use feet to stop just like in the flintstones . (flush/bleed/and test for leaking wheel cylinders and master cylinder)

1996 dodge ram 3500, abs brakes are locking up

is it the front or rear locking up? you really have to have this truck loaded (load valve under bed) before the back brakes come on and i think these are the same as my 1999 2500 where the rear is only abs, and not on the front..dumb design i know, but thats how it is...determining if its rear abs only and which axle is locking up will help pin point the problem...i put 100000 miles on my dodge since i got it in 2001 and i put 8 sets of pads on the front and just changed the rear lining and thats only because the rear wheel cylinder was leaking causing the rear brakes to lock up..
