You have to check the trouble codes that set the light to know what it is. Maybe a low fuel level sensor.

SOURCE: Fuel Gauge reads empty, but tank IS full

the float in your gas tank seems to have water in it....water is heavier than gas, that's why gas floats on top of water....try putting something like HEAT in it to dry up the water in your tank....

SOURCE: looking to buy a 1998 isuzu trooper but the check engine light is on. should i buy anyway

Remove cover from the relay and fuse box under the hood. Find the fuse for the ECM and remove. Wait 20mins and replace. If the light comes on again see a mechanic. I've had this problem over about 10 years and it is only a false alarm. If the problem persists see a mechanic. DO NOT TRY TO USE ANY CAR BATTERY POWERED DEVICE IN THE CAR UNTIL THE FUSE IS REPLACED

My check engine light came on in my 2003 Isuzu Axiom yesterday. The car runs fine just dont know why the light would come on!

You can bring your car to most major parts stores and they will run a diagnostic for free. Odds are that its your O2 sensor. They typically go around 100 to 120k miles.

The replace of the fuel cap on the gas tank did

The next thing for you to try is the vent tube coming out of the gas tank fill spout, also get the codes read because many other things can put the light on and reading the codes will point you closer to your problem.

GMC envoy after I filled gas tank the low fuel light came on and as I was driving it would go off than come back on after a few miles the check engine light come on stayed on and the low fuel light still...

You will need to replace the fuel level sensor which is in the fuel tank. They have a lot of problems because the metal fingers on the sensor wear off and gives you the incorrect readings. This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You will probably have a level sensor code. This will be a lot easier if the fuel level is down to about a quarter tank or less. Also you should be able to get just the level sensor and not have to get the complete fuel pump module.Good luck.

Replace you Gas Cap and see if it will not stop this Problem. If the Seal on the Gas Cap is Bad it will allow air into the Tank and will cause this Problem. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Gas gauge flys from quarter tank to way past full mark and sticks

This isn't a definite fix, but it may be that the gasoline in your tank is 'sloshing' forwards and backwards and your sensour is getting readings when the gasoline is in different positions in your tank. The connection is actually above your gasoline tank and you'll have to take off the tank harnesses and drop the tank if you want to check to see if the connection became slightly loose, otherwise you can just fill your gas tank and reset your temporary milage gage (that's the little black button near your RPM meter) and remember how many miles you get per tank.

Check engine light

first change the gas cap. and no,spewing gas doesn't cause this problem. pumping gas with the car running can. you could have a leak in one of the lines, so listen for a air leak before you start spending unnessesary money
