check for vacuum pipes not fitted or incorrectly fitted. Check that the inlet manifold gasket is fitted correctly and not pressed out or sucked in at some point.. Check idle position and idle speed . If you have a carby check that the idle shut off solenoid is connected and working

Atco mitsubishi carburetor engine stops when choke is taken off

Hi Thomas, Seems as if you need the carburetor reconditioned. It would seem the idle and slow running jets are blocked. I'm not sure of the type of carburetor used on the engine but if you would like us to go through it together I'm here. It is a long time since I worked on a carb, but I believe we can manage. Ps Don't disassemble the linkages! They can be a real problem to re align. Regards John

1994 v6 Nissan pickup dies at stop lights. won't idle.

Hello, first is it carburetor or fuel injected engine? When was the last time it was tuned up?
If carbureted engine then the carburetor will need to be rebuilt or replaced with a rebuilt carb.

If fuel injected engine. low fuel pressure, faulty fuel injectors, new air cleaner, throttle position sensor might need to be replaced, air flow sensor could be faulty, broken vacuum hoses, plug fuel filter, faulty fuel pump, new spark plugs, etc. All of these things need to be checked out.

You are probably not getting very good fuel mileage. Couple of things will be needed. rebuild carburetor, new filters, and a tune up. GB...stewbison

My car, an xjs 4lt, 1996 cele', it has a aj16 engine, the idle speed is too fast & will not reduce, i've checked the butterfly & that seems ok, i don't know whether or not the step...

Too fast an idle speed. If an engine without computerized idle speed control is idling too fast and refuses to come down to a normal idle speed despite your best efforts to back off the carburetor idle speed screw or air bypass adjustment screw (fuel injection), air is getting past the throttle somewhere. Common leak paths include the carburetor and throttle body gaskets, carburetor insulator spacers, intake manifold gaskets, and of course, any of the engine's vacuum fittings, hoses and accessories. It is even possible that leaky O-rings around the fuel injectors are allowing air to leak past the seals. Another overlooked item can be a worn throttle shaft and a defective idle speed speed control motor/valve stuck in the extended (high idle speed) position/throttle position sensor. Also the throttle plate could be binding in its bore and kinked accelerator cable, coolant temperature sensor might not be operating properly misleading the computer that the engine is still cold and computer throwing fuel at it raising the idle speed.----------

Getting this possibilities checked will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Every time i go from park to any gear my car shuts off. i cleaned the carb. also change the fuel filter. dont know what else to do. thinking about rebuilding the carb.

You gave us no vehicle or engine or year !

If you have a carb your in 1985 era

Do you have an idle control solenoid?

The fuel filter & cleaning the outside of the
carb won't do a thing

When I start it up first thing in the morning it blows smoke untill engine is warm. Will I need to get new guide seal? 100 series 4.5ltr petrol

if it is blue smoke it is oil, what is happening is when the engine stands overnight the oil runs down through the valve seals & into the cylinders hence the smoke when you first start the engine you will most likely need to recondition the head ( new valve guides & seals plus a valve grind) it may be cheaper to fit a reconditioned head.....hope this helps.....cheers
