Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

1997 honda accord station-- my front wiper fluid nozzles work fine, but the rear one does not spray. I checked the fluid hose under the rear door but there is no fluid inside and it doesn't appear obstructed. Could it be the pump even though the front nozzles work fine?

SOURCE: WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID WILL NOT COME OUT BUT WIPERS DO MOVE

I just had this problem and took the car back as I had just bought it. They told me there was a build up of sludge in the washer bottle that had blocked the pipes. They cleaned the pipes and the washer bottle out and it's working like new now!!

SOURCE: Windshield washers not working

I wouldn't worry about tracing the hose just yet, most likely it's a bad pump. Find the wire(s) going to the pump, usually on the bottom of the reservoir and connect a test light to a good ground. Then have someone try to 'squirt' the washer fluid while you touch the test light 'probe' to the pump's wire connector. If it lights but no fluid squirts, it's bad. They are cheap and usually very easy to replace. If it doesn't light there's a brake in the circuit somewhere. (bad fuse, bad connector, etc.) Good luck.

SOURCE: WIndshield washer system doesn't spray water

remove the pump, there is a screen filter on the pump itself and it gets clogged very often.

SOURCE: My 1998 Honda Accord EX windshield wiper fluid

You could have debirs in the pump or in the line. some units have screens that can get clogged up. Do make sure fuse is in place and tight. There may also be a relay that could be loose or faulty. You can check with an ohmmeter.

Washer fluid on front

Sounds like one of your nozzles is clogged to me. Try this.....Get a spray can of air, like the computer air spray. Stick the long air can nozzle into the spray nozzle. Shoot some air back into the system and see if it frees your clog. When my fluid gets low, mine will get gunk in it and clog to the point of not spraying at all. Compressed air usually does the trick. If not, remove and clean or replace the nozzles.

get an arm from auto salvage they aren't that much then use ty wraps to hold hose in place. make sure you get an arm with the spray nozzle built in.
ty wraps are also called zip ties.

Only one winshied wiper spray works

Check the rubber hoses to the sprayers. If they are on the hood they can come unplugged when you open it. Have a friend work the sprayers as you watch for leaks. An old toothbrush can be used to clean spray nozzles by scrubbing over the hole.

How do you fill up the rear windsheild wiper fluid

If I remember correctly, there is only one reservoir on the 93 pathfinder. That reservoir would have two pumps on it, one for the front and one for the rear. If the front washers have fluid, the rears would as well. If you can hear a pump running when you hit the switch for the back, then it probably works fine. You may have to hold the switch down for a while so it can prime itself. It is a rather long line running from the reservoir to the rear nozzle, and it has a check valve installed in it to prevent drain-back, so that the nozzle stays primed. These check valves tend to not work well after a couple decades, so the fluid probably drains back out of the line and into the reservoir after each use. If you keep trying and fluid never sprays out, you may have a clogged nozzle, or a blocked/pinched/severed line. I've had fluid start dripping out of headliners on vehicles with bad lines before as well. If the nozzle is clogged, it can be cleaned out with a small pin.

Rear window washer does not spray fluid. When I push the rear window washer button, the front washer/wipers turn on. The rear wipers work normally.

I have the same problem with my 2000 chevy blazer as skornec had posted. I kinda already figured the hose or spray nozzle was plugged. But the problem with checking those items is that I don't know where the hose is located to the back wiper. And the only thing that could be I see that could be the spray nozzle doesn't even have holes that washer fluid could spray from. So basically I just would LOVE if someone could please inform this lame brain of where to find the spray nozzle on the rear window and where in the interior of my blazer does the washer hose run.

1996 Honda Civic Wiper Spray problems

You will not be able to tell whether the spray nozzle is clean just by looking at it.
Poke it with a fine needle and keep trying to spray. If it is blacked,it will soon clear up.
I take it you can hear the spray motor running when you depress the switch.

It has to be pinching the tube when you close hood. Replace tube since it is cheap hose and see if it came lose from or is missing a mount to hold the hose.
