Won't turn over

Car cut out on me today while I was driving and now I cannot get it to turn over. Could it be the fuel filter?

Fuel Filter has nothing to do with the motor turning
You would know how old the fuel filter is & is was
running okey,so that isn't the issue
How about checking the battery

Not the battery...getting plenty of juice. Crank sensor, maybe?

Your question stated the motor won't turn over, that is a starter problem If your talking about the motor not starting that has nothing to do with turning over,it is a no start condition. No one can guess from the internet Car has to be tested

I am well aware of the "limiting parameters" of the internet...i was lookingon the "Fixya" page for what I thought would be better educated guesses than my own...sorry if my "terminology" was off.

There is no way anyone can tell you what is wrong with any vehicle It has to be tested by people with the reference material, test equipment & experience If someone guessed correctly for you ,you still can't just throw parts at it

I was driving and the car cut off. It won't start but it cranks and won't turn over.It is a 1995 Olds Cutlass Ciera SL, 6 Cylinder.

your terminology is wrong.if it cranks its turning over what you mean is it won`t start(fire up) as you said at the beginning.anyways it sounds like you could have a fuel pump problem that stop working.this happens alot.you should check for spark at the plugs to make sure its not an ignition problem.did you notice a check engine light on when it was running.if so there will be a code in the ecm and may be the cause of your problem.

For like a week now, every now and then the car starts jerking while driving or when i take off, like it takes the gas and cut off and then drives normal. Today driving from work it did that but shut off...

check the ignition system and parts, and fuel and parts,, fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, rotor, timing, for starters,, be sure the battery is charged and the alternator is working too

In drive mostly and idle it sputters and as no power i have a new fuel filter not on yet but engine light finally came on after i got gas today was on emty

Check your engine oil and please put the new fuel filter on. Do not let your tank get empty if possible because you will get sediment from the bottom of your tank and clog up you fuel filter and cause the car to sputter or cut off. Make sure your gas cap is on tight after putting gas in you car. The leading cause of the check engine light is a loose gas cap according to car shops. Good Luck
