It starts, but why won't it idle?

It sounds as a bad idle contro motor. Locate idle control motor, usually at throttle body. Tap on it a couple of times and see if issue resolves.

Shuts off after 5 mins. Why no spark, no fuel?

Will it start up again after shutting off? I'm guessing there is either an idle control issue or there is another engine issue that causes it to not produce enough energy at idle to continue running.

Idle air control valve is a possibility. It's also possible that you have a spark or fuel issue on one or more cylinders and when the car comes off the high idle it cannot sustain a normal idle.

My 96 Oldsmobile Delta 88 has had issues with a fuel leak for sesveral monthes. Just recently it's been having issues with power loss with driving, not starting right away, or reving the engine upon...

if still leaking will cause lower pressure which causes issues with engine fuel management such as idle -start -driveability and is dangerous

Hard to start will not remain running. Ran fine yesterday

GM's have a bad issue with fuel pumps failing. If you do not have a pressure tester have someone spray a little quick start when its barely running, If it idles better ,,then the fuel pump will need to be tested.

Its also possible the problem is the idle air control valve. If you can get it running and it will rev up and drive ok off idle and idle is the only issue then most liklely the IAC is faulty.

Intermitent high idle

Have your timing checked. Retarded timing can cause the issues you have. A quick adjustment could fix it.
