hi change the glow plugs and no its not normall there should be no air in the system it is either sucking air or it has not been bled properly last time system was worked on usually when changing the fiter check the whole system for signs of leaks if non found bled the system until you get rid of them yates210456

I have a 98 golf gl that keeps cutting out when it heats up i want to know what relay it would be and where does it go.


When you say heats up do you mean between the cold and hot in the middle which is normal operating range or are you over heating and the temp safety system is doing what it is designed to do and shutting your engine down so you don't damage your engine. Check you water pump, Thermostat and radiator before you try pulling or bypassing that switch or you could ruin your vehicle beyond repair.

Probably the starter needs to be replaced. If it was the battery, you would have more problems cold than hot.

1994 volkwagen golf, only starts when starter fluid sprayed into air intake. After starts runs fine. after warmed up, still doesn't start without fluid


Is this a diesel? If so it could be fuel filters because that is classic signs of a fuel filter needing changed.

it could be noisy lifters... do you have clean oil in there oil is it black.

dirty oil will make volkwagens make lots of engine noise.

it also could be a spark arcing to metal. check to see all your spark plug wires are pushed all the way down and dont have cracks in them.

Sounds like censor issues. Have diagnostics run on the vehicle to find the culprit.

My 1998 volkwagen golf is over heating, the water pump and the gasketts have been changed, but its still alarmingly high. What could be wrong???


i have an identical problem. water temp goes up. oil temp climbs then drops then goes higher than usual. i checked my water pump, replaced thermo switch, replace thermostat, refilled with new oil and oil filter, refilled radiator with new coolant. still the same. i suspect the last thing is a warped cylinder head, but it could also be just my radiator cap that is not releasing/retaing the proper pressure, because there is quite a bit of pressure in the water system when i open the cap. i suspect yours looks identical? the last thing after that (before checking the cylinder head) is the two temperature sensors on my top radiator hose. some cars have one, but that could be messed up as well. hope this helps

Vw cooling fan problem?


There is a relay located near the top or side of rad saddle or fan shroud, trace the wiring harness from the fans to this relay sounds like the relay is fused together or shorted out, or as simple as checking your temperature control setting inside, if you have a/c and have the fan set to any position other than off, and the hot/cold dial is in the blue those fans will always be running when engine is. Easy to check this, just have the car running and turn off your fan or turn your temp selector to max hot. If the fan still runs even when the engine is cold then revert to my first check on the fan relay.

possible coolant temp sender or crank sensor,have you got fuel at the plugs and a spark,one quick check is to disconnect the temp sender this will then put it into a cold start fuelling....
