Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima

Open Question

Spontaneous jump of tach from apx 2000 rpm to 4 or 5000 then drops back to where it started

Vehicle has 94K. No engine light coming on. Sometimes I can continue to push accelerator but car does not accelerate; have then moved into lower gear which resolves loss of acceleration or sometimes it just coasts and then picks up speed. On first two occasions, the "tach" hick up happened just once. Had my mechanics check out with no diagnostic problem codes revealed for engine or transmission......they could not "duplicate" the problem. Apx 3 weeks after shop visit, the tach did this multiple hick up but engine never died but lost power and coasted til stopped then restarted and made way to destination. On this 3rd occasion it was about 95 F with Heat Index over 100 degrees. I was predominantly in start and go traffic for about 20 miles. The other two instances it was not quite as hot. shop doesn't really have an answer until we can duplicate the issue but I have reviewed several sources and they mention: Solenoid control assembly, dirty throttle body, intermittent throttle position issues and fuel filter. Any suggestions as to how to move forward on this issue as my wife and I din't feel comfortable when we lose power at the wrong time. Thanks

Are you check the battery terminals for corrosion? This causes what seems to be a loss of power sometimes if they are corroded.

The best way to describe it is the car fells fine for a good lil bit and then after driving 50+ mph for about 10 minutes or so when you DO finally come to a light or a stop, there just doesn't seem to be that bottom end oomph that is normally there otherwise. Again the best way i can describe it has to do with the fuel trim or management of power. Once you hit that 3800-4K rpm range+ the car feels normal again. But i felt like my car was about to stall out almost before as well. I sometimes get a weird thing that happens if i've been driving for at least 10 minutes where if i stop for a while, like in a parking lot and talk to some ppl or just in a bad traffic jam the car gets an odd "shake" feeling from what seems to be the drive train. This is while I'm in neutral and idling. The rpms might drop a whole 50 if that but it's got an almost stall out feeling to it. I've had passengers even point it out to me before that haven't experienced it before but knows how my car should feel. I've tried resetting the ecu in multiple ways (unhooking the battery overnight, throwing a code by pulling the maf sensor and resetting the codes with a scanner/diagnostic tool and other ways). All this is temporary and honesstly it doesn't happen enough for me to be worried so much to remember and call nissan or take it to them.

Hope helps; good luck.

2002 Lincoln LSE 3.9L 124,000 MI. stalls after a stop or hard braking.

This may be a "sticky injector"

This would cause overfuelling - and a sudden rise in RPM. The ECU will see this and compensate - by shutting the injectors down lower - , which then stalls the vehicle.

Worth a try runnig cleaner through them.

Car does not start plus the tach needle jumped 2000 rpm with nothing runnig. I have already disconected start circuit white/white with red stripe and I had every thing else working fine for about a month,...

Here the good thing and this it will make it easy, The reason for that jumping tach meter tells you that there is spark and no fuel. Without fuel the spark KV voltage is 30kv. and it report to the tach. So you got spark and no fuel. If you had fuel the tach will show during cranking little tiny, tiny movement that you wont even see. So do this turn the key in the run position cycle it do you hear a humming noise from the rear you should that is the pump, they are sort of loud, If you dont you'll need a fuel pump. Even if you heard the fuel pump the fuel delivery may be low of pressure to start the engine. by the way try this have some one crank it and you hit the bottom of the tank may be you can shock it back.

While driving the tach drops to zero and the truck starts to breakup , like its running out of gas or no spark, then it catches back on

You may have an electronic control module failing. (ignition module).

The RPM signal comes thru it.

Also if the crank sensor is dropping out the engine will act like its shutting off and catching which would also cause the rpm to drop out.

Chrysler 99' town&country idiot lights guages go on&off

This is a very common problem on 1998 dodge caravan, voyager, t and County. You have a cracked circuit board in your instrument cluster. It is a dealer item. You can remove your cluster and install the circuit board yourself to save money but after the install you will have to take the vehicle back to the dealer to have it calibrated before the tach and the speedometer will work.

S class

you can jump directly to the battery. the procedure for doing this is as follows connect the positive cable to the dead vehicle(yours) then connect the ground cable either to the battery or to the engine block. then conect the positve cable to the jump vehicle then connect the ground. start the jump vehicle and rev engine to 1500-2000 rpm for 2 minutes. let vehicle idle for 5 minutes. then try and start dead vehicle. sometimes the whole thing takes 10 to 15 minutes to be successfull. please rate the solution.........thanks
