Question about Cars & Trucks
Car lost power then died while driving, turn ignition key and no start, not even a click. Replaced PCM(computer), good alternator, good starter, good battery, no blown fuses or relays. Tried clicking the key on and off 3 times in order to see what if any trouble codes came up but get nothing. What on earth can I be missing, its as if there is not even an engine under the hood when I turn the key. I am a rather proficient and able mechanic as I worked as a mechanic at a BMW/VW/Audi shop for years so I know a bit more than the average bear, and from what I gather this appears to be a common issue with PT Cruisers, however I am at the point where I have tried everything including replacing the computer in order to solve this problem and certainly cannot afford to take it to the dealership. PLEASE PLEASE HELP, any and/or all ideas would be very appreciated, thank you.
Lets start at the beginning.
Do you have a check engine light when you turn the key switch on ?
Is the starter relay getting power from the key switch ?
Are all of the fuses in the box near the battery hot with the key on ?

Testimonial: "No check engine light when key switched into the ON nor the START positions on the ignition switch. Relay is good but not sure about power supply to the relay. Just to ensure I am checking the relay terminals correctly, which of the 5 prongs(three on top and two on the bottom with a gap between the two bottom prongs) do I place the black and red multi meter leads on and how much voltage or amperage should I be looking for, as I do not have the elec. scematics for this model of car available at present time? By the way thank you so so much for taking the time to help me with this, I can't even begin to explain how much the assistance is needed given the urgency and the fact that as much as I hate to admit it even to myself, I sir am at the point to where I am stumped and must find and fix this problem so thank you once more for your time and knowhow."
